futurama new episodes Futurama Returns to the 31st Century with Recap O Rama Video

In what can only be described as the best thing that has ever happened, a brand new episode of Futurama will premiere tomorrow night on Comedy Central at 10PM EST/9PM CST.

It is the first time fans of Matt Groening’s brilliant animated comedy have been treated to new episodes since Fox foolishly pulled the plug on the show in 2003 (not counting Season Five which was comprised of four direct-to-dvd Futurama movies split into episodes).

Here’s a synopsis for the one-hour special premiere.

“After a devastating spaceship crash, the Professor attempts to resuscitate the crew with his birth machine. Later, Leela and Zapp Brannigan find themselves stranded on an Eden-like planet.”

It’s hard to believe that Futurama first premiered over 10 years ago. Even in syndication, the show never felt stale or old. I think that’s because it combined all of the things that made The Simpsons great (top-notch writing and likable characters) with something even better: sci-fi. Every time I watched an episode, no matter how many times I’d seen it before, I’d pick up on a new nerd-friendly joke.

Of course, there are still those out there who haven’t seen Futurama at all. If that’s the case for you, promise me you’ll start watching the new episodes with religious regularity. Promise?

Also, just to get you up to speed, ¬†we’ve included a seven minute “Recap-O-Rama” from Comedy Central. That’s right: you can catch up on all five seasons in one video:

Now that you’ve caught up on all things Futurama, feel free to talk about your favorite episodes in the comments. For me, it comes down to “The Day the Earth Stood Stupid” and “Jurassic Bark.” The former because it’s so incredibly funny, and the latter because it never fails to make me cry (and I know for a fact that I’m not the only one).

If you’re a Futurama fan, how excited are you that the show is finally getting new episodes? And, if you’re not, you think you’ll tune in to the new season?

  4. I hope they do another anthology of interest! Those two were my favourites!

  5. I am thoroughly psyched about seeing this crew in action again. Kudos to the powers that be who re-initiated their intelligence for us lowly meat-bags! LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!

  6. Anybody wanna mirror it?

  7. This makes me so happy!

  8. The ending of Jurassic Bark gets me every time…

    • Agreed. It’s possibly the saddest ending in the history of TV.

  9. “omg im my own grandfather!!!!” lol i still crack up when i see that scene

  10. Arghhh – I’m so jealous that you guys get to see the new episodes – We still don’t know when they will be aired in the UK.

Can somebody tell me if they were good pleeeease?

“Oh a lesson in history from Mr. I’m my own Grandpa – Screw History”

  11. It’s hard to google Futurama Season 6 and not trip over links to watch them online. I’m so happy to see Futurama back, I’ve bought all of their DVDs. Whilst not laugh-out-loud funny, it’s really enjoyable to watch.
