Two years ago, our own Anthony Ocasio set the internet a blaze when an innocent April Fool’s prank concerning a Full House revival took on a life of its own. Since then, there’s been constant rumor concerning the possibility of an actual revival of the famed sitcom – and now it seems the news just became real.

According to a fresh report, Netflix is closer than ever to locking in a 13-episode order for a sequel series titled Fuller House. The show would be a multi-cam sitcom and star Candace Cameron Bure as D.J. and Andrea Barber as her BFF Kimmy, with possible guest appearances from John Stamos, Bob Saget and Dave Coulier being considered. In addition, Stamos is onboard as a producer.

From TV Line:

The project is being shepherded by the original show’s creator, Jeff Franklin, who will exec-produce alongside Thomas L. Miller and Robert L. Boyett (both of whom also EP’d the original).

It wasn’t too long ago that Netflix’s Ted Sarandos stated he was interested in seeing the SVOD service get into the multi-cam game. However, the first answer to that plan was the recently released adaptation of Richie Rich, the trailer of which sunk like a stone with audiences (the show only holds a 1 ½ star rating on the service itself). With a Full House sequel, the service would, in theory, seek to reclaim some ground in the multi-cam space through the power of nostalgia – something it seems to be all about with the recently unveiled Inspector Gadget and upcoming Magic School Bus reboots.

‘Full House’ Cast Reunion – 2015

What is clear from the news is that the television revival craze is only getting stronger by the week. What began as a simple experiment with 24: Live Another Day has continued into revivals for Heroes, The X-Files, Coach and now Full House. It seems the further down the line tinsel town gets in its hopes of making old properties worth something again, the more of the bottom of the barrel it must scrape up. Were people really clamoring for an actual Full House revival?

All that said, however, there is precedent for a show like Fuller House. It wasn’t too long ago that Disney Channel launched a sequel series to the famed Boy Meets World with Girl Meets World – and to many viewers’ surprise, the show has managed to actually maintain a high level of quality (mostly thanks to the brilliance of Sabrina Carpenter). So, given that, there is hope for success with Fuller House, however odd the news may be.

Stay tuned for more on Fuller House as it develops.
