This weekend the highly anticipated remake of the beloved 1985 vamp-camp classic Fright Night opens in theaters. The team behind the film ranges from star (and lifetime diehard Fright Night original fan) Colin Farrell to the rather surprising directorial choice -- indie film favorite Craig Gillespie (Lars and rhe Real Girl). When it came time to select the film's writer however, there was no more perfect choice than vampire lore veteran and former Buffy the Vampire Slayer showrunner Marti Noxon.

Noxon worked as a writer/producer on both Angel and, as mentioned, Buffy the Vampire Slayer with series creator and executive producer Joss Whedon and has since been attached to projects as varied as I Am Number Four and Mad Men. We recently had the chance to chat with Noxon about bringing this predatory, horrifically monstrous, version of a vampire back into theaters at a time when they so often... sparkle, how this script ties in with her work on Buffy, and what Colin Farrell brought to the role as the most frightening of all of the frightening vampires -- Jerry Dandridge.

Take a look at our interview with Noxon and the synopsis for the film below:

Fright Night interview with screenwriter Marti Noxon:

Synopsis:

Senior Charlie Brewster (Anton Yelchin) finally has it all going on: he’s running with the popular crowd and dating the most coveted girl in his high school. In fact, he’s so cool he’s even dissing his best friend (Christopher Mintz-Plasse). But trouble arrives when Jerry (Colin Farrell) moves in next door. He seems like a great guy at first, but there’s something not quite right—but everyone, including Charlie’s mom (Toni Collette), doesn’t notice. After observing some very strange activity, Charlie comes to an unmistakable conclusion: Jerry is a vampire preying on the neighborhood. Unable to convince anyone, Charlie has to find a way to get rid of the monster himself in this Craig Gillespie-helmed revamp of the comedy-horror classic.

Craig Gillespie directs a cast that includes Anton Yelchin, Colin Farrell, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, David Tennant, Imogen Poots and Toni Collette from a script by Marti Noxon.

Fright Night opens in theaters this Friday, August 19th.
