Friday Night Lights was a series highly praised by critics, but seen and talked about by few outside of its loyal fanbase. Series creator/executive producer Peter Berg (Battleship) brought something truly unique to NBC, as the show turned out to be about so much more than High School Football.

Sure, from week to week, one could witness an exciting touchdown pass to win the big game, but the show's the deeply layered ensemble cast, which rivaled other critical behemoths of its time, like Mad Men and Breaking Bad.

With the series' departure in 2011, many wondered if Dillon, Texas football would live again. Talks of a new film filled the rumor mills, but Parenthood and former Friday Night Lights writer Jason Katmis has announced a new web series crossover between the two dramas. The four-part story, entitled 'Friday Night at the Luncheonette,' will feature Parenthood's Amber Holt (Mae Whitman) along with FNL alum Jesse Plemons.

Mae Whitman on Parenthood

Plemon's character from FNL, Landry Clarke, was the founder of a Christian hard rock band called Crucifictorious. The web series will place Landry's band at the Luncheonette recording studio in San Francisco alongside Whitman's character from Parenthood, Amber. Why Landry and his band are in California is still unknown, but that mystery alone should be one of the many reasons to check out this exciting new entry in the Friday Night Lights canon.

This web series is a match made in heaven, due to Katmis' use of so many FNL alums in Parenthood (Michael B. Jordan (Fruitvale Station) and Minka Kelly (Almost Human) are just a few of the talented bunch from Dillon, TX to guest star). Like FNLParenthood flies under the radar, by captivating its loyal audience nonetheless. There is no doubt that Katmis has taken his wisdom from the writers room of FNL, by creating another dramatic masterpiece that deals with so much more than its title suggests.

If you have yet to watch either of these wonderful series, then perhaps 'Friday Night at the Luncheonette' will be a good stepping stone on your journey to quality NBC programming. For fans of these shows, what do you think of the new series? Could this breathe new life into the Friday Night Lights franchise? Only time will tell.
