FOX Picks Up Shawn Ryan’s ‘Ridealong’

It has been a little over a year since Shawn Ryan’s hit cop drama The Shield ended, but it would appear that Ryan just can’t get enough of the boys in blue as his new television pilot, Ridealong, has just been picked up by FOX.

Ridealong is being touted as “a character procedural that follows one of Chicago’s toughest cops as he struggles to clean up the violence and corruption in town.”

Fans of The Shield creator know that Ryan has been serving as the show runner for another hit FOX drama, Lie to Me. Fear not faithful Lie to Me viewers: Ryan will continue his run on the sophomore drama.

While I never could really get into The Shield, I completely understand why people enjoyed it. And since Ryan took over Lie to Me, the show has never been better. Still, I’m not sure how this new project will be received by viewers.

Could this be a case of going home too soon? Does the world need another prime time cop drama on network television? Granted, a LOT of violence has been erupting in the streets of Chicago over the last few years, so maybe people will find an unexplored world of police intrigue to get into? However, they could just as well be put off by the first impression of  ‘another cop show.’

Lie to Me has been picked up for a full season, but FOX has yet to schedule a return date and unless things change drastically, expect to see Ridealong this fall on FOX.

  1. OMG I love The Shield!! Watched all seasons more than once, never getting tired of it!

Lie to Me is also fantastic, but I’m already looking forward to this Shawn Ryan’s new project!! =D

  2. Thye Shield is still one of the best shows put on TV IMHO (THE WIRE takes the top spot)

Possibly a return home to quickly but then again – I did NOT watch the SHIELD when it premiered because I thought that too:
    “ANOTHER cop show? Not interested…….”

A buddy encouraged me to watch when they were showing the pilot right before the second episode the next week just to give him my opinion, so I did. 40 minutes into the pilot I called him and said “Okay man – you were RIGHT”. (and then I saw the end of the pilot and was totally hooked)

So I have faith in Ryan and will definitely give it a shot.

  3. Another fan here

Watched EVERY episode twice already and foresee a third viewing in the near future :)

I trust the man. I’m very picky but Shield is one of my favorites and Lie To Me is very good as well.

As far as ppl somehow opposing this decision, for whatever reason, please keep in mind how much trash is on TV right now. Consider how few “good” scripted shows are left. We need this.

  4. In my opinion The Shield is the greatest show to ever grace Television. No better show has ever aired on my television set. Despite that for me Shawn Ryan has been hit or miss I have not loved everything he has done and I’m unsure about this. As far as I’m concerned The Shield was nothing short of absolutely brilliant while I found The Unit to be very unimaginative it really wasn’t promising from the beginning and just continued to prove that it wasn’t worth the time to watch. Lie to me always feels pointless. I have tried so hard to like it, but it just fails to be anything in my opinion. The show is uninspired no character interest and nothing behind the individual plot of each episode. It really is just about the lie of the week. He wasn’t show runner but I enjoyed his work on Angel which was also a great show.
