The latest update to Fortnite has made changes to the Team Rumble mode, and players are not happy. In a matter of just a few hours, the mode was being considered almost unplayable by some fans. This anger is compounded by the fact that multiple new challenges were introduced as part of Season 7,

Team Rumble is one of Fortnite's core game modes. It follows the same Battle Royale formula the game is known for and popularized. However, instead of going it alone, players form teams of 16. The first team to reach a set amount of eliminations wins the round. It's widely considered to be one of the best ways to grind and complete challenges, due to the lower team count and help from teammates. As such, it's one of the most popular game modes available - so much so that it was made permanent after initially being a temporary mode.

However, it seems Team Rumble might be evolving. A Reddit post by Shredder2025 goes over the major change: a storm begins shortly after the game begins. This severely limits player movement and exploration, preventing the chance to find better gear. Shredder notes that it forms so quickly, they're unable to land at a point of interest and grab some loot. Nothing about the mode itself has fundamentally changed. The same rules, team sizes, and goals remain the same. The only change is when the Fortnite storm spawns. The change also came on rather suddenly, as one comment says Team Rumble was normal one hour and changed the next.

To say this has gone over poorly would be an understatement. The comments overwhelmingly agree that the change is for the worse. The typical strategy for Team Rumble matches was to complete a few of Fortnite's challenges before playing the mode as intended. With the storm now a much bigger obstacle, that plan is rendered obsolete. It also means looting for new weapons is borderline impossible, resulting in each player having similar loadouts. This leads to stale and repetitive matches.

The reason for this change is currently unknown. It's possible it was done to prevent players from only playing Team Rumble to complete challenges, thus promoting Fortnite's other game modes. With highly desirable prizes like the new Fortnite Rick Sanchez skin, the added challenge could make sense.

Whatever the reason, the change has not been implemented well, and fans are upset. Epic Games has not made any statement regarding Team Rumble. The change may be reversed at a moment's notice. Given the reception, it's very likely. Until more information is released, players will either need to brave the storm or play Fortnite in a different mode.
