Due to an undisclosed issue, Epic Games chose to remove the unpopular Cuddle Fish item from competitive playlists in Fortnite, though it will eventually make a comeback. Modeled after the real-world cuttlefish, Fortnite's Cuddle Fish joined the game as a new fish type with the recent advent of Chapter 2 Season 6.
This octopus-esque creature has two separate uses in combat. For one, players can throw out the Cuddle Fish and use it as a proximity mine. When thrown directly at an enemy, it functions as a sticky grenade. Either way, players are able to detonate the explosive item manually by shooting it. Each explosion only delivers 35 damage, but fans continuously encountered a problem where deploying multiple Cuddle Fish caused damage to stack, effectively giving the item's user an unfair competitive advantage. Like countless other items that have come and gone, the Cuddle Fish is a feature that needs to be shelved for a bit.
Announced in a Fortnite Status Twitter post, developers have temporarily removed the Cuddle Fish item from competitive playlists. The brief message notes the removal is "due to an issue," yet fails to specify what the issue actually involves. Still, players can expect the feature to return whenever the problem is resolved. Fans on social media seem largely pleased with Epic's decision to temporarily sideline the Cuddle Fish. However, there are players who want to see the item permanently vaulted given its overpowered qualities. Whether or not developers will take such feedback into consideration isn't yet known.
Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 6 ushered in a whole host of other new bells and whistles, including a few extra weapons, several map-related changes, and new characters. The latter specifically has seen three notable skins enter the picture - Tomb Raider's Lara Croft, Teen Titans member Raven, and FIFA legend Neymar Jr. And there's reason to believe Epic Games has its eye on a number of other potential crossovers, too. Recently, a select number of fans received a survey meant to gauge interest about certain characters, pop culture figures, and products. The likes of Resident Evil Village's Lady Dimitrescu and Ethan Winters were featured in the survey.
Fortnite is available on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Android platforms.
