Epic Games has introduced a new ADS mechanic to Fortnite Chapter 3, allowing players to aim down sights in first-person mode years after the third-person action shooter's initial release. Fortnite Chapter 2's finale ended with a bang and Chapter 3 has officially set sail with new additions to revamp the popular battle royale. Players can now land into Fortnite's manifold new map with a collection of new content including characters, cosmetics, and new game mechanics such as sliding and swinging to make the experience more fluid and enjoyable than ever before.

Although Fortnite Save the World has had a first-person setting for some time now, its battle royale game mode can only be played in third-person. Its competitors however are mainly first-person or have utilized both camera modes to give players more accessibility and bound the game to each respective perspective. The groundbreaking PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS, for example, allows players to easily snap in and out of first-person mode with the press of a button and also features a setting to easily gun down survivors in third-person with a first-person aim down sight. While Fortnite continues to be strictly bound to third-person, the camera is considered to be the most manipulative tool in the battle royale genre and it looks like Epic Games might be ensuing its original main competitor.

A glimpse at Fortnite Chapter 3's new first-person ADS mechanic comes courtesy of ModernWarzone on Twitter. In a clip, the player is seen quickly aiming down in first-person mode. One of Chapter 3's new weapons, the MK-Seven assault rifle appears to have a red dot sight attachment that utilizes first-person mode when players aim down with the weapon. This marks the first time Fortnite has ever implemented anything in first-person mode and surprised new and old Fortnite fans, with many of them mentioning they're going to re-download the game to exclusively check it out.

First-person mode is a long-requested feature by Fortnite fans and only made a minor appearance unethically during Chapter 2 Season 7. An NPC exploit allowed players to go into first-person for the remainder of a casual match, although seemingly broken and clunky. Fortnite first-person mods have also been created to demonstrate the game in the alternative camera mode and filled the void many fans hoped to see. Sadly, this mode felt unnatural due to the game's features being developed strictly for third-person and missing first-person animations and proper configuration.

The addition of a limited first-person ADS mechanic could put some players at an advantage, as first-person competitive games are more popular and played than other genres. Fortnite Chapter 3 is completely revamping the battle royale experience and is set to add even more new features in the future. If well-received, the title could possibly see more weapons with the feature in the future, especially with the possibility of an attachment system similar to other battle royale games.
