“Can I ask you a question – ‘Do you dream?’ Or should I say, ‘Can you put a price… on your dreams?'”

Recently the official website for this year’s Cannes Film Festival has made a video available which is a showcase of most of the movies that are playing there. Some of the footage we have already seen (such as Inglourious Basterds and Drag Me To Hell) but the majority of it is brand new, never before seen looks at the various movies.

The video is almost a half hour long with the new footage of the films starting at around the 17 minute mark. But if you’re determined enough to watch the whole thing you will get to some very noteworthy footage of the late Heath Ledger in his last ever role (that’s right, The Joker wasn’t his swansong to the film world) in Terry Gilliam’s The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus. In case you just want to get straight to that footage (which is sadly only about 16 seconds long) , you can skip to the 21:27 mark.

16 seconds is not a lot to go on, but it gives us at least some idea what to expect from Ledger in Dr Parnassus. I’m sure I’m not the only one who was really reminded of The Joker “pencil trick” scene from The Dark Knight“Look, listen, I know why you choose to have your little… group therapy sessions in broad daylight…”

Will that be something that holds the movie back – will Ledger’s general performance as The Joker be constantly in people’s minds when watching Dr Parnassus? Or will Ledger’s performance in this movie (at least for the real world stuff – as we know, because of his untimely death, Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell are portraying him in the “Imaginarium” segments) be good enough to pull us into this particular world and keep The Joker out of mind?

Ledger certainly had the talent to produce the latter…

You can head over to the official Cannes website for the video… but be sure to come back and tell us what you think of the footage!

The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus is set to premiere at Cannes next week, and although no official release date has been set, it is presumed to open sometime this year.

  1. Well, it would make sense for Heath to still somewhat have had some similar body mannerisms lingering from his performance on Dark Knight, since he threw himself so completely into being the Joker.

Being that it’s his very last performance, I’ll be interested in seeing it either way and I doubt anybody will be too harsh in their criticism. I mean, what good does it do to criticize somebody who’s gone…

  2. I hope he goes out with a bang. He already has with TDK so I hope this doesn’t sway anyone’s opinion of him.

  3. TOO COOL! I hope I get the chance to see it. I have been anticipating this moment. Just to see Heath again. TDK was good, but…I never was a Batman fan, so to see Heath smile again, to hear his voice. It will be so cool. I’m looking forward to this even more than TDK.
