The latest entry in the Five Nights at Freddy's series, Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach, appears to finally put an end to the games' antagonist, William Afton, but that doesn't mean that there's nowhere for the series to go. Its popularity means that a sequel is likely after Security Breach has received all of its DLC, even if that is a long way off. FNAF fans shouldn't think that they've seen the last of Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria, or even the Mega Pizzaplex.

[Warning: full spoilers for Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach follow.]

There are six endings in total for FNAF: Security Breach, each one wrapping up the events of the game in one way or another. There's only one that can be called the "True Ending" however, in that it's what's considered canon for the series. Unlocking every one of FNAF: Security Breach's endings takes some doing, but each of them shows players a different take on Gregory's (and maybe Freddy or Vanessa's) escape from the Mega Pizzaplex. All of them vary in how satisfying they are, and the one where Gregory ends up sleeping in a cardboard box isn't the best out of all of them, but the True Ending is the one that reveals the most of the game's secrets.

William Afton appeared to meet his end during Security Breach's True Ending, but FNAF has proven time and again that everything isn't always as it seems when it comes to Freddy Fazbear. If he truly is dead and gone, then there are other possibilities for antagonists in the next game, if indeed it even needs one. It's also possible for the series to go backward and show players what happened prior to the Mega Pizzaplex and William Afton's apparent demise. All of FNAF: Security Breach's endings might even hold some clues to what fans can expect from the next game.

FNAF: Security Breach's Sequel - William Afton Might Not Be Gone

William Afton is the main antagonist of the FNAF series. He's not seen in person until FNAF 3, and he takes on a few different forms over the course of the following games. His latest iteration is Burntrap, the scorched remains of Scraptrap and/or Springtrap after the fire following the events of Pizzeria Simulator. A serial killer whose actions kick off the events of just about every game, he's easily the most influential character in the series, even more so than the mascot, Freddy Fazbear. During Security Breach's True Ending, he is trapped in the blazing original pizzeria by The Blob, presumably to burn once again.

Although Burntrap is presumed to burn up, his fate remains uncertain. He escaped two separate prior fires, so it stands to reason that he could do it a third time. Unlocking every FNAF: Security Breach ending does little to explain what happens to him in the end, since he only shows up in the True Ending. Even if his body is destroyed, however, that doesn't mean that he's gone for good. The Glitchtrap virus still exists in the majority of the Glamrock animatronics, and it's possible that he made copies of it in anticipation of just this occasion. The Blob may have even been attempting to save Afton instead of trapping him. After all, it pulls Burntrap up into the ceiling, towards the Pizzaplex, instead of downwards towards the flaming pizzeria underneath it.

New FNAF Games Don't Need William Afton

Even if William Afton did meet his final end in the True Ending of FNAF: Security Breach, the FNAF series can still go on without him. His actions have left a permanent imprint on the games and the Freddy Fazbear's franchise, so there's still plenty of horror that could go on in his absence. FNAF: Security Breach's DLC may possibly answer this question before the next game, since their contents are still unknown. A new antagonist, one perhaps even more sick and twisted than Springtrap could ever hope to be, may even do the series some good. It's been using Afton for eight straight games so far, so a change of pace could make the next game even better and more terrifying than ever.

If the series does get a new antagonist, then there are some possibilities. The strongest may even be right under fans' noses. Vanny is mysteriously absent from the True Ending, which is very telling. Even without Burntrap, her mind is presumably still being controlled by Glitchtrap, so she could take up the mantle of FNAF's twisted villain. Her working to bring Afton back to life could be a great plot for the next game if she does indeed take over his legacy. Security Breach might be FNAF's lowest-rated game, but it might have introduced an evil even greater than the infamous William Afton. Freddy could also become a villain once more; although Afton doesn't succeed in fully controlling him if the True Ending is attained, he does try, so it's possible that there's some portion of Glitchtrap hiding within him, just waiting for its chance to take him over.

New FNAF Games Could Go Back To The Beginning

FNAF Next Game Horror Kids

The next FNAF game may not even need a new antagonist if it goes back in time to before the events of FNAF: Security Breach. There's plenty of lore for the next entry in the series to explore; the bite of '87 is never truly explained, and the murder of the original five children who inhabited the first five classic animatronics isn't shown outside of an 8-bit minigame. Compared to other FNAF games, Security Breach doesn't show much of the past, so the series could make up for it in the next game. The most influential events in FNAF history could come to life before players' eyes, or even something entirely new and previously unknown. The original Fredbear's Family Diner, also only shown in minigames during the events of FNAF 4, could be a great setting if the series chooses to expand more on its history.

No matter the plot for the next FNAF game, Security Breach could influence it with more than its choice of antagonist. The new style of gameplay could make a return, allowing players to navigate the setting just like Gregory did. If Vanny makes a return, then fans could walk the halls of the Mega Pizzaplex once more, possibly in a ruined form as a result of the fire in the True Ending. FNAF: Security Breach's sequel could have multiplayer, which means that players could explore a destroyed Pizzaplex with a friend. If not, then the setting for the next game could still be fully explorable in the same vein. Seeing Fredbear's Family Diner, or even Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria, the setting of the first FNAF game, in a new perspective is something that would likely delight fans and theorists alike, and make the next Five Nights at Freddy's a truly horrifying experience and the best the series has ever seen.
