‘Fleming’ Trailer: Dominic Cooper is the Man Who Would be Bond

Published 1 year ago by

With his dark hair and cool charisma, Captain America: The First Avenger star Dominic Cooper seems like he was born to the play the role of James Bond. Since Daniel Craig is planning to hold on to the part for some time, however, Cooper is currently doing the next best thing: starring as Bond author Ian Fleming in BBC America’s biographical miniseries Fleming: The Man Who Would be Bond.

With Fleming arriving on BBC America at the end of January, a new trailer has been released that will no doubt catch the attention of Bond fans. Based on the trailer’s content. it looks like Fleming is definitely being sold as a kind of budget Bond movie complete with gambling, guns and a Bond girl. The latter is Fleming’s lover and eventual wife, Ann Charteris, who is played by Sherlock‘s Irene Adler, Lara Pulver.

Fleming did work as an intelligence officer prior to becoming a successful author, and many of the details in his spy novels were based on knowledge he garnered throughout his career. Fleming mainly worked in planning and directing intelligence operations rather than fighting on the front lines or going undercover himself, so the shots of him firing machine guns in an army uniform and making out with Charteris in an exploding building indicate that this might be a rather embellished account of his life.

Fleming will also provide some nice filler between 2012′s Skyfall and the release of the 24th film in the James Bond franchise, which is set for release in fall 2015 with Craig returning to play the role for the fourth time in his career. Cooper, meanwhile, can be seen in next year’s Need for Speed adaptation and has indicated that he will return as Howard Stark in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

This will not be the first biography of the author to grace television screens; Fleming has already been portrayed numerous times by actors such as Charles Dance, Ben Daniels and Jason Connery. Watch this latest trailer and tell us in the comments if you think Cooper has what it takes to define the role.

  1. Been looking forward to this since it was first announced. The trailer they aired after the season finale of The Tunnel last Wednesday made me even more excited.

  2. I’m excited! As a huge Bond fan, I would love to see what this series can do with the man who brought to life one of my favorite franchises.

  3. Indeed, looks like a low budget Bond series, only with Bond’s writer in the leading role doing Bond stuff. Would’ve liked it much better if they stuck a little more to Fleming’s actual (dramatized) life. Still could be just that though. It’s BBC so I don’t really suspect them to use Fleming as an excuse to make a Bond series.

    • Except that it’s not a BBC production, Sky made it to air it on their Sky Atlantic channel in the UK, it’s just that the only people that air British-made shows in the US seem to be BBC America.

  4. Dominic Cooper sure looks really Bond Material!!!
