If only the blackout that happened on FlashForward were real, everyone would have seen this coming. Alas!

It’s looking increasingly likely that season one of the tinkered-to-death ABC series will be its only season. According to E! Online, actress Christine Woods (who plays FBI agent/mother-to-be Janet) has been cast as the lead the NBC comedy pilot, Perfect Couples.

This announcement comes on the heels of actors Ryan Wynott (the youngster Dylan) and Zachary Knighton (Bryce) booking fall television pilots as well, meaning the writing might be on the wall around the FlashForward set.

Of course, this doesn’t necessarily mean that FlashForward is doomed to join Invasion on the list of failed Lost rip-off series; E! Online quoted a “source” as saying that the new roles will remain “in second position until there’s official word of a pickup.” But considering that Woods’ character, Janet, appears to be a major player in the grand scheme of the show, it doesn’t inspire too much confidence that the actress is investing in new show.

None of this should come as a major surprise; after a much-hyped debut, FlashForward saw its ratings plummet throughout the course of the Fall season and after a long hiatus, the show and returned to record-low numbers earlier this month. Couple that with several changes in showrunners, and you’ve got the picture of a series in trouble.

With V struggling in the ratings as well — it returns to ABC on Tuesday night — 24 already canceled and Lost wrapping up, the 2010 fall television season could be devoid of any real “appointment” shows for the first time in almost ten years. And while your DVR might enjoy the rest, something about that fact just feels decidedly depressing.

FlashForward airs a new episode Thursday night at 8 p.m. on ABC.

  1. NO! NO! NO! NO! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. FlashForward lost me about three or four episodes in…

That last paragraph is spot on, get ready for a boatload of new reality programming to complement all the existing reality programming. Here I come HBO! Please don't let me down!

  3. I'd really hate to see the show come to an end seeing as how that last two episodes back have been great in setting up and continuing the main storyline. I like the veteran's dad going all vigilante as well. Hopefully ABC sees the promise coming back to the show.

  4. I have a strong felling somewhere in my mind that tonight's episode is a Locke-centric flashback and I have to think this will be one of the better episodes of the season. On the surface it definitely seems to be the most intriguing – we've been waiting forever for someone to go back to rumor-patrol.

  5. What I think hurts these shows is the fact they show like 4 episodes and then take 4 months off. Hate this new way they're doing tv shows now. What was wrong with showing all the episodes and then showing reruns in the summer time?

  6. Since Braga was attached to this show I knew there is not much good coming out of this direction ! thought,is was still promising at the beginning !

  7. Same here,I really do not understand why they do that !
And even worse, how they get away with that ! One day a show is on,the next it's gone for a couple of weeks, then on again, and then gone !

This way it's really hard to keep people interested !
I for once wait now for the full DVD set with the full season and watch it then.
Not interested anymore to waste my time in front of the Tv and wonder were the new ep is !

Networks should learn, but they do not care !

  8. If this show dies, it will be ENTIRELY abc's fault. The idiots run a promising show for nine episodes and then suspend it for 3 freakin months. If that doesn't show lack of confidence from the outset….

I, and many others, were completely into FlashForward's premise – hooked into the story lines – and then the rug gets pulled out from under us. Whatever imbecile decided to table the show for 3 months should be fired. I feel bad for the actors and regard them as victims of this network's incompetence. You had a good thing on your hands with “FF” ABC, and you outright blew it.
