Arrow Flash Producers Talk Upcoming Seasons 570x294 New Image of The Flash; Arrow Season 3 Ras Al Ghul Details?

With The CW’s Arrow entering season 3 and its spinoff series, The Flash, set to premiere this fall, the DC television universe is quickly expanding. The Flash will be bringing titular character, also known as Barry Allen (Grant Gustin), to life, in addition to fellow DC characters Captain Cold, Firestorm, and General Wade Eiling. Meanwhile, Arrow will be introducing more characters from the comics as well, including Wildcat and Manhunter. And based on the recently released Comic-Con trailer, Ra’s al Ghul will probably be the main villain.

Speaking of the Demon’s Head – a.k.a one of Batman’s greatest villains – a supposed character description for al Ghul has been posted online, revealing some details about how Ra’s al Ghul may appear in the upcoming season of Arrow. Plus, a new image of Gustin in The Flash costume has been released.

According to the character description – which was first posted on Reddit (hat tip to CBM) – we can expect Arrow‘s Ra’s al Ghul to be a “ruthless strategist, a master of martial arts, and a shaper of history.” The description goes on to characterize Ghul as “terrifying,” intelligent, and “physically imposing. Think the character of Bane from ‘The Dark Knight Rises’.”

Here’s an image of the (possible) description via Imgur:

The character details are supposed to have come from the breakdown of season 3, episode 4, titled ‘The Magician’Arrow’s 50th episode. The description also lists Ghul as the leader of the League of Assassins (though that was already established in Arrow season 2) and says he is a major recurring character, which seems to lend credence to the idea that he’ll be season 3’s main villain.

The comparison to Tom Hardy’s Bane from The Dark Knight Rises may not help Arrow’s case in differentiating itself from Christopher Nolan’s Batman films, but the character description should be taken with a grain of salt due to the manner of its release.

Even so, the relation to Bane seems to only be in terms of physical size. Brief glimpses of Ghul from the season 3 trailer certainly depict the character as intimidating and different from The Dark Knight Rises’ Bane. Though we’ll have to wait until the villain officially debuts on Arrow this fall to see how alike the characters will be.

As for The Flash, a new image of Barry Allen’s costume was released on the show’s official Twitter, which urged villains to beware. The image (below) debuted online yesterday, which was 52 days before the premiere (a reference to The New 52, perhaps?).

The first photos released of the Flash’s costume made the suit look much darker and armor-esque. However, in the new image, Barry’s costume looks a bit brighter, which would be truer to the comic book character’s costume.

What do you think, Screen Rant readers? Are you looking forward to seeing Ra’s al Ghul on Arrow? Are you looking forward to the premiere of The Flash? Let us know in the comments.

Arrow season 3 premieres Wednesday October 8th @8pm on The CW. The Flash premieres Tuesday, October 7th @8pm on The CW.

  1. I really enjoyed it. Can’t wait to get the season rolling.

  2. I wonder if they’ll mention the Lazarus pit. Can’t wait to see their take on him.

  3. I’m still not a fan of the costume, but I get the feeling that this is Flash v1.0. We will see better/improved costumes as the series progresses.

It’s interesting that the casting call says “Think…Bane from The Dark Knight Rises” instead of “Think Ra’s Al Ghul of Batman Begins”

    • It seems that at least they changed up the color of it and made it a bit brighter.

    • As far as the casting call thing, I assume they want an intimidating presence with a tactical mind rather than the shadowy puppet-master Neeson played.

    • IT IS Flash 1.0, suit/costume was already done.
Still one of the best pilots in a long time! The Flash FTW!!

  4. How bout David Morrissey from the Walking Dead as Ra’s al Ghul

  5. I can’t wait for them to keep mispronouncing his name.

    • That bothered me too until I realized that those closer to him (i.e. Nyssa) pronounced it correctly. Maybe there’s more to it than them just echoing Nolan.

  6. The Flash pilot has been online for at least 2 months now.

    Start the series already!!

  7. Nice costume, LMAO.

  8. Worst cast and costume ever

    • This isn’t an AoS article…

      • Or an Amazing Spider-Man 2 article.

        • You didn’t like the costume in the Amazing Spider-Man 2? I loved it. And I thought the cast was good too.

          • Other than the writing, everything else in TASM 2 was pretty good.

      • This site just wouldn’t be the same without Dazz. His comments are perfect.

  9. there is no possible way for Arrow to defeat or out think ra’s al ghul in any way, he’s like 10x greater than anything slade was in season 2, i don’t know how arrow can even come out alive after a fight with ra’s al ghul

  10. Don’t forget “Arrow”s Season 3 introduction of “The Atom” that’ll be played by Brandon Routh. I’m psyched for that big time!

The brighter red in The Flash’s costume is better. I also think the costume will go through an ongoing evolution.

I feel the CW & show runners are doing exactly the right thing with the intro of all these new characters into the lifeblood of the shows. The Character Designs including costumes & overall synergy of casting & overall production design that sews it all together is getting sweeter & sweeter.

Can’t wait for how they will tie both shows together. There hasn’t been 2 shows so well knit since Steve & Jamie + Buffy & Angel! In hope I trust.

    • I wonder if this is the beginning of Arrow getting more trick arrows, given that Ray Palmer is a scientist and all that.

  11. I hope they make a decent effort to incorporate the physics of speed in a realistic manner.
Think of a bullet… If you throw a bullet at someone it will bounce off of them. The same bullet fired from a gun will cause major damage depending on muzzle velocity. They will have to make a conscious effort to slow him down in combat so that every punch is not a fatal blow.
G-forces… Whatever explanation they come up with to explain Barry’s resistance to g-forces will not carry over to anyone he interacts with. If he accelerates someone too fast the g-forces will liquify their organs! Even snatching a gun from someone result in broken bones at the very least. Inertia is a m-fer!
Inertia would make any jumps verrrryy long distance (remember the bullet) Vertical jumps can be as fast as they want them to be, but after the apogee the return to the ground would only be 16fs2(?) (I’m not a rocket scientist!)
I’m sure they will hire somebody well versed in (practical) physics in order to make the show somewhat realistic, but in the meantime we can help with suggestions/ideas.

  12. DC and WB I am begging you, please merge your television and cinematic universes! Please!!!!!!!! Its your only hope!!!

    • Please, no. Worst idea ever.

    • Only if it’s an Infinite Crisis storyline.

  13. I hope Ra’s Al Ghul will be much more close to the comics than his Nolan version, just like the League of Assassins already proved to be in the second season. I would love to see him act on planetary level, to get rid of the “unworthy” human kind and shape a new perfect world, for the sake of nature. I also hope they will show his simbiotic bound with Mother Earth. Fortunatly, “Shaper of history” probabily means that he’s immortal like in the comics.

“I’m not a fanatic and not a madman. I’m a realist, at least, and a futurist at best. Someone does not agree. Thus, we must use whatever means neccessary to protect and preserve what mankind would pillage and rape. The world will thank us someday.”

  14. Love it! Bring it all on…

  15. Oded Fehr as Ra’s Al Ghul.. he’ll be great in the role
If not, Jason Isaacs would do just fine .

  16. Arnold Vosloo (Imhotep from The Mummy) would be good in my mind for Ra’s. He’s a big guy for the ‘physically imposing and terrifying’ aspect they mentioned and he can be very sinister. Plus, he’s done loads of voice work for DC already over the years so is probably well on their radar for a TV spot.

What was that excerpt anyway?!? Looked like a VERY disturbing Lonely Hearts ad!

  17. I wish people would get off the whole ‘It’s similar to Nolan’s Batman movies’ So freaking what? 2 of those movies were good and one was awesome. Arrow is a good show. So freaking what it has some similarities to those movies? And you can’t say they’re similar because of the villains because the villains shown are overall DC villains, not just specific to one hero.
