With just over one week to go to the biggest pop-culture event in the world, now is the time to start making those plans for which panels are worth the wait and which booths will be receiving much of your spending cash. Comic-Con International: San Diego begins on Thursday, July 21st, and we’ve started to see how the first couple of days are shaping up. For fans, the first place to begin any convention collection is with a guide.
2016 marks the seventh year in a row that TV Guide Magazine and WB have teamed up for these SDCC issues. This year’s covers feature Supergirl, The Flash, Supernatural, and Blindspot. Both Supergirl and The Flash are returners from last year’s special covers while Arrow and Gotham were replaced with long time CW staple, Supernatural, and NBC’s hit drama, Blindspot. The 2016 covers feature a prominent stars and stripes unified theme instead of individual nods to their respective characters as in years past.
Warner Bros. and DC always have a large presence at SDCC, and this year will be no different. In addition to being lucky enough to catch a few of their panels in Hall H, stopping by the WB Booth (#4545) and the DC Booth (#1919) are an absolute must. Booths will feature costumes, autograph signings, game demos, and activities for all ages. WB (h/t CB) has released photos of the four collectible TV Guide covers that feature WBTV shows Have a look for yourself:
Inside, fans can expect much more about WBTV’s massive slate of shows including current hits Arrow, Big Bang Theory, Legends of Tomorrow, Gotham, Lucifer, iZombie, The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, and The 100, while also spotlighting new series Riverdale, Time After Time, Powerless, People of Earth, and Frequency. Fans of DC’s animated shows will be pleased to see more information on Teen Titans Go! and some new info about new series Justice League Action.
But WB hasn’t forgotten its comic roots. These special editions will contain art from famed DC artist Ivan Reis from the newest comic event, DC Universe: Rebirth; a featurette that highlights the upcoming animated film, Batman: The Killing Joke (which also premieres at on July 22nd at Comic Con); and posters from the wildly popular DC Super Hero Girls for younger fans. Other series featured will be Birds of Prey, Batgirl, and The Flintstones.
Supergirl, Flash, and the rest of the TV Guide will be available for purchase on newsstands everywhere July 19th, and they’ll be given away for free at the WB booth at San Diego Comic Con from July 21st – 24th.
The Flash season 3 will premiere Tuesday October 4th at 8pm on The CW, Arrow season 5 will premiere in the same timeslot on Wednesday October 5th, Supergirl season 2 on Monday October 10th, and Legends of Tomorrow season 2 on Thursday October 13th.
