The Flash finally kicks off with season 3 next week, and it looks like it’s going to be another action-packed year. Fans were already expecting big changes, since the season 2 cliffhanger finale showed Barry (Grant Gustin) going back in time to save his mother. After his father’s shocking death at the hands of Zoom (Teddy Sears), Barry decided it was one tragedy too many, and made the tough decision to give up a life with Iris (Candice Patton) to get another shot at a “normal” family life.
The season 3 premiere will delve into the new Flashpoint timeline, showing the repercussions of altering such a pivotal moment in Barry’s history. Viewers will be treated to a familiar Flash nemesis, with Reverse Flash (Matt Letscher) offering Barry some ominous advice about the consequences of his actions. Episode two will reveal a new rival for Barry, the suspicious and “abrasive” CSI tech Julian Dorn (Tom Felton). The hits keep coming in episode 3, with the appearance of a new and powerful villain.
As the official synopsis posted by CBR explains, our favorite speedster has to save the city once again, but some old friends from an alternate Earth may be able to help.
“Earth-2 Wells and Jesse return to Central City — Barry and Team Flash are thrilled to reunite with Earth-2 Wells (Tom Cavanagh) and Jesse (guest star Violett Beane). Wells confides to Barry and Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) that Jesse has all the powers of a speedster and has been saving people on his Earth. He is concerned about her safety and wants them to talk her out of using her powers. Meanwhile, Magenta, (guest star Joey King) a new meta who can control metal, terrorizes the city.”
We know from past episodes of The Flash that Wells has always been very protective of his daughter’s safety, with good reason. It’s likely his plan for Team Flash to talk Jesse out of being a hero will be unsuccessful, however, and it’s a good bet she’ll want in on the battle with Magenta.
Frances “Frankie” Kane (Joey King) was a girlfriend of Wally West/Kid Flash in DC comics, so it’s possible we may see a hint of this in the episode before she shows her powers as Magenta. Her control of metal comes from her abilities to create magnetic fields, and that definitely has the potential to wreak all kinds of havoc on Central City and beyond. Her history in print has see-sawed between good and evil, so it remains to be seen if Magenta stays a Flash enemy or eventually switches sides.
The Flash season 3 will premiere Tuesday October 4 at 8pm on The CW, Arrow season 5 will premiere in the same timeslot on Wednesday October 5, Supergirl season 2 on Monday October 10, and Legends of Tomorrow season 2 on Thursday October 13.
