Season 3 of The Flash is upon us with the promise of an exciting Flashpoint story arc and massive crossover possibilities with Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl unifying against one large threat are leading the hype train. Because Barry Allen made a rather detrimental decision at the end of season 2 by traveling back to save his mother and changing the entire timeline, we’re expecting to see a very different season this time around.
The Comic-Con 2016 trailer offered a few glimpses of what’s to come on The Flash season 3: Wally West (Keiynan Lonsdale) will become Kid Flash, Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes) is “the richest man in America,” and Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) is a complete stranger to the West family. However, we didn’t see much concerning the future of Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker).
The news of another cast member being added to The Flash, may give us some hints concerning Ms. Snow’s possible conflicts in the upcoming season. According to EW, Susan Walters, formerly of The Vampire Diaries and Teen Wolf, has been cast as Caitlin Snow’s mother. Mommy dearest was first mentioned in season 2, when Caitlin came across her Earth-2 alter ego Killer Frost and both mentioned having rather cold relationships with their mothers.
As far as the actual character, she is more than just Snow’s mother. EW describes her as:
“Dr. Carla Tannhauser is a world class biomedical engineer and CEO of a major research company. But while Caitlin may have inherited her mother’s formidable scientific mind, the two have long had a difficult relationship, with Caitlin finding her mother cold and withholding, and Carla regarding her daughter as rebellious and ungrateful.”
This makes perfect sense as to where Caitlin got her knack for science from, but it doesn’t sound like these two ever got along (considering Caitlin is far from rebellious on the show). For now, we don’t know much else about their relationship, but with Susan Walters rumored to have a recurring role, we can certainly expect to see some mother-daughter drama. If Caitlin’s turns out to be drastically different from what we know now due to the the Flashpoint story arc, her mother may end up being a big part of her life.
The Flash season 3 will premiere Tuesday October 4th at 8pm on The CW, Arrow season 5 will premiere in the same timeslot on Wednesday October 5th, Supergirl season 2 on Monday October 10th, and Legends of Tomorrow season 2 on Thursday October 13th.
