While still in its adolescence, the DC Extended Universe is finally up and running, with three films released thus far. While responses to Man of SteelBatman V Superman, and the recently released Suicide Squad have been mixed, there is no shortage of excitement for the future installments of the DCEU. We are less than a year away from seeing Wonder Woman make her solo feature film debut, and that will be followed by perhaps one of the most anticipated films of all time - Justice League.

While Marvel approached its shared cinematic universe by introducing the Avengers in solo outings before teaming them up, Warner Bros has taken a more streamlined route with the DC Extended Universe. Outside of the Trinity, the other members of the Justice League will appear in their own solo films after the release of the big team up. Still, despite in some cases being years away, rumors continue to swirl around the developing productions of AquamanThe Flash, and ShazamWhile The Flash is yet to receive a release date, there has still been much discussion as to which villains Barry Allen (played by Ezra Miller) will be facing off against. It was recently rumored that Flash would have his hands full with the team known as the Rogues. But this may not be entirely true.

Jeff Sneider, a reporter for Mashable, has suggested on Twitter that these rumors may not be entirely accurate. Rather, he says that the last he heard, "villains are Rogues members Golden Glider and her bro Captain Cold."

Seeing rumors about the Rogues in THE FLASH. FWIW, last week I heard villains are Rogues members Golden Glider and her bro Captain Cold.— Jeff Sneider (@TheInSneider) August 29, 2016

Should this report be more than just a rumor, this is an exciting development. In part due to The Flash, the Grant Gustin-starring series on The CW, Barry Allen is more popular than ever and certain members of the Rogues have prominent roles in the series, which has caused their popularity to skyrocket as well. While Golden Glider has only appeared in a few episodes, Leonard Snart/Captain Cold (played by Wentworth Miller) recurred on the series before earning a starring role on Legends of Tomorrow, and then being upped to a regular across all Arrowverse shows. He is no doubt one of the more popular characters in the Arrowverse.

Captain Cold in The Flash

If it turns out that the villains in The Flash are Captain Cold and his sister, Golden Glider, rather than the entire Rogues, this could prevent the film from suffering the effects of overcrowding. Comic book movies have been known to throw in too many characters on occasion, and not always to the film's benefit. Films like Spider-Man 3Batman & Robin, and The Amazing Spiderman 2 all featured numerous villains, allowing little time to develop any of them properly.

Perhaps the best route for Warner Bros. to take is to introduce only a few members of the Rogues before having them team-up in a sequel to The Flash. Maybe Captain Cold is unable to defeat Barry Allen, so he needs to seek out help. Could he break Captain Boomerang out of prison? Possibly. Of course, this is all speculation, but that's what makes it so much fun.

Suicide Squad is in theaters now. Wonder Woman opens on June 2, 2017; Justice League on November 17, 2017; Aquaman on July 27, 2018; an untitled DC Film on October 5, 2018; Shazam on April 5, 2019; Justice League 2 on June 14, 2019; an untitled DC film on November 1, 2019; Cyborg on April 3, 2020; and Green Lantern Corps on July 24, 2020. The Flash, the Batman solo movie, Man of Steel 2, and Justice League Dark are currently without release dates.
