Things are heating up on the third season of The Flash, as the universe-altering effects of 'Flashpoint' continue to be felt and reverberate across The CW's Arrowverse. But things have taken a cold turn on other fronts, as Danielle Panabaker's Caitlin Snow has begun to exhibit metahuman abilities comparable to her Earth-2 counterpart Killer Frost - and that could be a big problem for all involved across her own universe and beyond.

Now, the plot synopsis for the upcoming episode 'Monster', the fifth in season 3, has revealed more of what's in store for Snow - including the reveal of her estranged mother.

While the powers that be in charge of The Flash have remained tight-lipped as to whether or not the Caitlin Snow character will go all the way to becoming the supervillain Killer Frost in her own timeline, it's been teased for a while now that whatever challenges she's set to face will be exacerbated by the return of her mother, guest star Susan Walters' Dr. Tannhauser. A scoop from Entertainment Weekly recently teased the storyline via this comment from executive producer Todd Helbing:

“You’ve heard snippets throughout the show so far of how her mom is pretty cold. When you meet her, you’ll understand exactly what Caitlin has been talking about and exactly how their dynamic works. You can see how that’s had a long-term effect on Caitlin.”

That certainly doesn't sound like a reunion that could have too many positive effects for Caitlin or the extended cast of The Flash - and now a new expanded synopsis for the episode suggests that things will definitely be getting colder, as it sounds like Tannhauser's lack of motherly graces could push Snow ever closer to the dark side:

CAITLIN CALLS ON HER MOTHER FOR HELP WITH HER GROWING META POWERS — Desperate to understand what is happening to her, Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) visits her mother, Dr. Tannhauser (guest star Susan Walters), a renowned biomedical researcher, in the hopes that her mother can provide some answers about Caitlin’s growing meta-human powers.

However, when Dr. Tannhauser treats her daughter like a test subject, Caitlin grows cold and brings up past wounds causing the two to have a major blowout. Meanwhile, after a mysterious new meta-human attacks Central City, Barry (Grant Gustin) tries to convince Julian (Tom Felton) to let him assist on the case.

The Flash season 3 continues next Tuesday with ‘Magenta’ at 8PM on the CW.
