The new trailer for season 4 of The Flash shows the return of Barry Allen -- but is he ready to be a hero again? Earlier today, a new set of images from the season 4 premiere offered a look at the show's updated status quo. Caitlin will be off on her own, somewhere between Killer Frost and her old self. Meanwhile, Cisco, Wally, and Joe will all be working to keep the tide of villains at bay in Central City. The most interesting image, however, showed the return of Barry Allen.

The latest trailer continues on from many recent promos and images we've seen. There's the return of villains like Peek-A-Boo, the growth of Vibe as a hero, and Iris grappling with the potential loss of her love. We know, however, that Barry will be back and will bring some baggage with him. And despite the upcoming marriage of Barry and Iris, the couple will go through some issues. Part of that will likely be caused from the changes Barry has undergone while in the Speed Force, and the new trailer offers our best look yet and the new Flash.

The CW has been slowly putting out promos and trailers for the return of their shows next month, and the latest one for The Flash expands what's been teased so far. In it, we see Cisco and Iris debating the lengths to which they should go to bring back Barry, while Iris and Joe struggle separately over the Flash's absence. We also see more of the samurai villain who will threaten Central City, sadly appearing to turn Iris into a damsel in distress once again. Finally, we see the return of Barry, but he's certainly seen better days.

While he doesn't speak, Cecile makes it clear that Barry has changed. Why she's the first to encounter him is unknown, but it looks as if Barry has been trying to translate what he learned in the Speed Force onto a white board. We also see him being monitored at S.T.A.R. Labs while Cisco asks the hero if he wants to don his new suit.

It looks as if the first part of the new season will dive right into Barry's return, but will hold off on the proper return of the Flash. Likely, the hero will have to find his way back to reality and will hopefully lighten up in the process. So far, we've heard a number of times that the new season will be more fun, but all of the promotion so far has teased a darker Barry and The Flash. With the season 4 premiere just weeks away, however, fans won't have to wait much longer to see how things will unfold.
