Barry and the rest of Team Flash have had a pretty wild ride thus far in The Flash season 3. With the changes Barry made to the timeline, new characters who didn't exist before, now do - like Barry's CCPD co-worker, Julian Albert - while other characters who never had metapowers before, now do - like Caitlin Snow developing Killer Frost's icy abilities. On top of that, the team faced off against another evil speedster - this time, the self-proclaimed God of Speed, Savitar - and though they had believed him defeated, a vision of the future shows Savitar killing Iris as Barry watches on, helpless to stop him.

Figuring out how to prevent that grisly future from coming to pass has become Team Flash's new mission, but when the series returns after a week hiatus they'll have a whole new problem on their hands - Gorilla Grodd. It was at the end of last week's episode that Jesse came asking for help rescuing her father, Harry from Gorilla City, and in the upcoming two-part event, Barry, Cisco, Caitlin, and Julian will travel to the jungles of Earth-2 hunting for Harry and Grodd.

An extended promo for 'Attack on Gorilla City' is now available - in where Julian can barely hold his excitement over getting to visit an honest-to-goodness planet of the apes - and you can give it a watch, above.

The Flash season 2 - Gorilla Grodd

In an interview with TV Line, actress Violett Beane shares how her character's father ended up in this mess, explaining that he "got a message from some of the sentient gorillas, who asked to meet him — as gorillas do — and you know Harry, he loves an adventure. So he mounted an expedition and took 10 people into the forest with him." Jesse, however, won't be joining the rescue mission, instead hanging back on Earth-1 where she'll help Wally protect Central City. And while Jesse is understandably worried about her father, spending time with Wally isn't so bad, and Beane promises "some cute scenes" between the speedster lovebirds.

Beane describes the multiverse arc as "massive" and teases that the first episode of the two-part event concludes with a "huge gorilla fight." Trouble is brewing in Gorilla City and it may actually not be Grodd's fault. As it turns out, the leader of Gorilla City, Solivar, wants to lead an invasion of Earth-1 and Grodd is leading a resistance to stop him. So Grodd might be an ally this time around and not an enemy. Still, Team Flash would be wise not to trust him entirely, because once they're no longer useful to Grodd, the big gorilla is sure to turn on them.

The CW has also released a synopsis for part two of 'Attack on Gorilla City' that you can read below (part one's synopsis can be found here):

When Grodd (voiced by David Sobolov) and his army of gorillas bring the battle to Earth-1, The Flash (Grant Gustin) and team must find a way to stop them before they destroy Central City. Gypsy (guest star Jessica Camacho) returns to join the fight.

Meanwhile, Jesse Quick (guest star Violett Beane) decides she wants to stay with Wally (Keiynan Lonsdale) on Earth-1.

Dermott Downs directed the episode with story by Todd Helbing and teleplay by Benjamin Raab & Deric A. Hughes.

The Flash season 3 continues on February 21st with ‘Attack On Gorilla City’ @8pm on The CW.
