The Hobbit will be great.
Cant wait to see Smaug the Mighty Dragon, the Battle of Five Armies(wonder if this battle will be about as big as
Helms Deep, I mean for the sake of cinema, you want it to be epic but not to be larger than the Siege of Gondor),also the Stone Trolls, Mirkwood and the Large Spiders, our good friend Gollum, Thorin Oakenshield and the other Dwarves,
Beorn, the Misty Mountains, Erebor aka Lonley Mountain,
Gandalf, Saruman the White, Lady Galadriel,Elrond,Thranduil,
Dol Guldur,Bard the Bowman, Dain and 500 or so of his fellow
comrades, Bolg of the North, The Great Goblin, The Shire,
Roac chief of the great ravens, Radagast,Celeborn, lord of the Eagles, and of course Bilbo Baggins. These films will be really something to see.

Oh man, so looking forward to this! Going to have to re-read the Hobbit before I see the movies. Having a good reason to go back and re-read one of my favorite books is excellent.

The Hobbit movies are undoubtedly my most anticipated movies for the next few years as well! This is a great update and I'll take each one you can find Rob. Can't wait to hear who plays Bilbo, Dain, Thranduil, and the others!

Ok the hobbit is deff going to be more reminicient of the fellowship of the ring. It's WAY more personal than anything in LOTR. There is no epic quest to destroy the ring... they don't even know how crucial the ring is in the Hobbit they just think it turns you invisible. This is one of those movies that I just can't actually believe they are doing. I remember seeing all 3 of these first day in theaters and thinking it would be sooo cool if they did the hobbit after they completed the trilogy. Well my dream came true! Some people consider the Hobbit Tokiens best work and I for one loved this book when i was younger. There are some great scenes I remembered from the book that I am absolutely dying to see onscreen.(Srry for spoilers) I couple off the top of my head (about 7 years since I read it). The epic fight with the golbin king, bilbo and gollums riddle match, the giant spiders, trolls, and mountain gaints! Yes Giants as tall as mountains how cool will that be on screen. And of course the battle of the five armies and Smaug are going to be beyond epic. So basically i've been waiting for this movie for a good ten years... cheers to peter jackson and del toro for bringing back the magic of Tolkien :)

DrSam

I'm with you. Fellowship was an amazing movie, much more "personal" and, not to sound corny, it was truly magical. 2nd one was pretty good. The 3rd, good but the giant battles and the over use of cgi just took me out of the story.

Here's to hoping Hobbit will be more like the 1st LotR (which it should).

very little love i'm afraid, unlike the first two, return of the king strayed too far from the book and i think Jackson made several poor creative choices.

I dont hate it, but it pales in comparision to the first two films.

I almost cant believe this film is actually being made, and I suppose I wont really until I see a trailer next year, but I am very excited for this one.

Fellowship and Two Towers are such amazing movies, never had anything like that been done before, it was (almost all) of the cast that made it such an amazing experience, they embodied those beloved characters in a way no one thought possible.

Lets hope The Hobbit is just as good.

Wow, what a rarity. To have some of the most talented film makers of our generation working on bringing one of the most beloved books to the screen. This is definitely on top of my most anticipated list.

Dying. Just dying -- for every scrap of news on this project. Take this with a grain of salt, but here's a report from TORN:

http://www.theonering.net/torwp/2009/11/24/34394-a-another-candidate-for-a-dwarf/

Now, Fry could just be chatting up Peter and Fran socially, since he's doing work for The Lovely Bones, but here's to hoping it's a bit more! ;)
