The Losers

Now onto a couple of new pics from the upcoming comic book adaptation, The Losers, which has quite a big cast that includes the likes of Jeffrey Dean Morgan (The Comedian from Watchmen), Zoe Saldana (our new Uhura from Star Trek), Idris Elba (The Wire, RocknRolla), Chris Evans (Human Torch from Fantastic Four), Columbus Short (Whiteout, Armored) and Jason Patric (Narc).

Based on a DC/Vertigo comic series which ran from 2003-2006, The Losers follows an ex-CIA Black Ops team who seek out revenge on the mysterious Max (Patric), their former handler who betrayed them.

We’ve seen some set photos from the film over the past few months, but we now have a couple of new and better looks at the film via the first official images from it. They feature the team altogether, and one of Saldana specifically wielding two handguns, presumably taking control of two targets to her right and left. Check them both out below, again thanks to Omelete (click for larger versions):

I’ve never read The Losers comic, but it certainly sounds like an idea which has potential to be one slick and fun action movie (it reminds me of Smokin’ Aces for whatever reason). And it’s sporting quite a cast, with Morgan and Elba (the latter played Stringer Bell on the phenomenal HBO series, The Wire) standing out for me. Those who have read the comic may be more skeptical of them adapting this one, but as one of the “happy ignorant” I’m really looking forward to it.

What do you think of the first official images from Jonah Hex and The Losers? Which are you looking forward to more? Are you familiar with either of the original comic series?

Jonah Hex is set to hit theaters on June 18th, 2010 (after being moved from August later that year).

The Losers is set for an April 9th, 2010 release.

  1. The picture for “Jonah Hex” looks pretty cool. But, I read the synopsis and it sounded like complete crap.

  2. I never read The Losers , don’t know much about the comic BUT the movie has : 1) Zoe Saldana ( an exquisite beauty and ,so far, a good actress )
and 2) JDM -he was spectactular as the Comedian , so I’ll want to see pretty much anything he does.

    I HAVE read Jonah Hex.
I looooooooved that comic when I was a kid.
Hex was a good guy but weird and very very scary looking.
I was excited when I first heard about this movie but
I don’t think that they’ve gotten Hex’s look quite right.
Jonah always had a lean mean psychotic otherworldly glare and so far I’m not seeing that in Brolin’s pics.
I find it distracting when the main character doesn’t quite look the part. They are going to have to tell a helluva good story to keep me interested.
I do think Josh is a talented actor , so I will see it but my hopes aren’t that high.

  3. jonah hex looks cool, the losers is going to be flippin amazing

  4. I’m not really a fan of the Western genre, but Jonah Hex has really caught my attention. I think that’s largely due to the Hex comic series from the ’80s (following the Crisis on Infinite Earths maxi-series, if I remember right) where Hex is thrown hundreds of years into the future to an post-apocolyptic world. It was really some good fun, and it made me a fan of the character.

As for The Losers, I did read the updated version with the team of spies or whatever they were, and I was not impressed. Why they couldn’t have done it like the original and really good series (about an Army unit in WWII) I don’t understand. The movie, as it looks now, I think I might pass on.

  5. I wonder if the storyline fie The Losers was tweaked from the comic series. Let’s just say that the villain in The Losers had a plan not unlike Lex Luthor in Singer’s Superman Returns. I’d be curious to find out which story was written first!

  6. Richard Donner beat both of them to the punch. Singer’s Superman Returns was pretty much just a rip off of one of the Superman movies of the 1970s and 1980s, in which Lex Luthor tries to sink California to create all-new beach front property — all owned by Luthor, of course.
