I haven’t been really keeping tabs on The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, the upcoming film from director John Turteltaub and his National Treasure bud, Nicholas Cage. The first set photos from TSA recently hit the net and I gotta say, they are not exactly thrilling me. In fact, as I write this, I don’t even know why I’m bothering to write this but I already started typing so here we go…
These first photos from The Sorcerer’s Apprentice mainly show Nic Cage and co-star Monica Bellucci (The Matrix Reloaded) doing the wizard-in-love thang. See for yourself:

Did you see that hair on Nic Cage??? WTF???
In an age where filmmakers can use CGI to create everything from realistic transforming robots to tear-inducing animated dramas, you think SOMEBODY in a CGI F/X department SOMEWHERE would’ve been tasked with providing Nicholas Cage some realistic-looking hair for each of his roles.

Ok… Ok… I’m all done I think… *ahem* The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is scheduled to hit theaters on July 16, 2010.
WAIT, ONE, MINUTE: This is going to be a summer blockbuster??? Are they serious??? I don’t see how this movie is going to do well in a summer lineup: Nic Cage is a fading star; this film ALREADY looks ridiculous; people still have tons of love for that version of The Sorcerer’s Apprentice from Fantasia (Mickey Mouse hacking up those dastardly brooms!); and finally, how does a movie like this expect to NOT look like some middle-aged version of Harry Potter (with Alopecia)?
Then again, Nic Cage does still manage to pack’em in (National Treasure 1&2 were huge cash cows) and until we see a trailer, no telling what kind of buzz this film is going to have. I wouldn’t bet the farm on it, though. And if there’s time, I’d say move it to a Feb-March or Aug-Sept release. But that’s just me.

OMG!!! I totally agree with you about Nic’s hair!!!! I thought I was the only one!! His awful hair is such a distraction for me in his movies…I can’t help but think the same thing…I mean they can do movie makeup magic and create hellboy, but they can’t even give him a proper wig!!! hahaha…oh poor Nic!
What is more of a distraction than Cage’s hair is his acting ability….or lack there of. I would see this if it were not for the WOAT “actor”. Since Valley Girl, all of his work has been, less than stellar, sub-par and hardley noteworthy. But if you have a kick ass Uncle, then I guess your in.

Im sure there are those who could take this kids story and turn it into a watchable movie script, but Nic Cage? Really? The trailers better be pretty good to keep us from laughing.

This movie looks great i spent 3 days watchin them film the final scene at the bowling green in new york, this is a mega budgit film. I even got to meet him and have my pic taken with him after a shot
