Empire has scored the first official image from John Landis’ recently completed Burke and Hare. The film, which takes place in Edinburgh, Scotland in the 1820s, is a dark comedy based on the true story of two Irishmen, William Burke (Simon Pegg) and William Hare (Andy Serkis), who take to grave robbing to earn some easy money.

Although this first image doesn’t do much in showing the plot of the movie, it is a nice introduction to the main characters. Two quick thoughts on the picture: The look on Pegg’s face is hilarious, and Andy Serkis will always remind me of Gollum.

At the risk of sounding hyperbolic, I really think this film has the potential to be terrific. I mean, who doesn’t want to see Simon Pegg and Andy Serkis play two seedy Irish grave robbers? When you throw in a supporting cast that includes Tim Curry, as well as Isla Fisher and Tom Wilkinson, it’s almost impossible to resist, am I right?

What do you think of the first image of the film? Are you interested in seeing Burke and Hare, or is it just me?

  1. I can't wait to see this, these two are great.

Are they Irish or Scottish? The article says it's in Edinburgh but then says they are Irish. Do the Irish invade the Scot cemetaries? And was this an adaptation or a comic?

  2. Oh yeah it's a true story. I missed that before. Cool.

  3. I was more interested in this when David Tennant was going to be in it, but I'll watch anything Simon Pegg is in.

  4. I couldn't agree more. Pegg and Tennant would've been golden! I'm still a bit hesitant on Pegg in things minus Edgar Wright but I still go to see them cause he's just that awesome and always manages to surprise me.

  5. Wasnt there already a trailer on this somewhere? Or am I thinking of something else?

  6. I heard of this movie from my friend and i felt bit boring but i actually saw the picture now i myself feel like watching as soon as it releases. That's gonna be a big hit really.

    smart lipo

  7. Pegg can do no wrong in my opinion. Run Fat Boy Run is great and he did that without Wright, How To Lose Friends And Alienate People wasnt amazing but still mildly amusing, and then there is Pegg's scene stealing Scotty in Star Trek.

Shame his Doctor Who Episode was a bit naff.

  8. I was thinking of “How to Lose Friends and Alienate People” with my comment. “Run Fatboy Run” is great; you're right about that.

Somehow, when I watch “Star Trek” I forget that we havn't met Scotty until there he is and the movie just gets even better! “I've never beamed three people from two places onto one ship before!”

It is a shame about the Editor on “Doctor Who.” I heard he really wanted to play Rose's dad but they couldn't work out the scheduling. So he became the Editor and then narrated the first season of “Doctor Who: Confindential.”

  9. This looks like a winner to me. Pegg and Serkis are great individually, and I reckon the two of them together would be awesome.

Is it just me, or does Serkis look the spitting image of the Child Catcher from Chitty Chirtty Bang Bang in this? Creppy …

  10. I'm the same every time I watch it, I always forget Scotty is coming!

Yeah the plan was for him to play Pete Tyler but if he had, that would have had an effect on later stories when Pegg surely wouldnt have been available.

  11. Had not heard of it till now, I am certainly game.

  12. Looks good !
    Got me interested !
