The official plot for Captain America has been released, and it seems it does indeed take place completely during the 1940s, which I think is pretty cool. I just wish the official title, The First Avenger: Captain America was reversed to Captain America: The First Avenger.

Anyway, the movie opens on May 6, 2011, and since The Avengers opens July 15, 2011, I have a feeling I know how Cap will end and Avengers will begin. And you know what? I’m cool with it–that’s how Cap went out in the 1940s, and how the Avengers found him.
Also, it looks like the original director, Nick Cassavetes doesn’t look to be attached anymore. As you may recall, he was to direct Iron Man about four years ago before the film went back to Marvel, while Jon Favreau was going to direct Cap. How about that for funky trivia. I’m guessing we’ll hear a director announcement for Cap by either late 2008 or early 2009.
By the way, Jack Kirby’s cover to The Avengers number 4 is quite possibly the greatest cover ever. I hope they show Cap kicking serious butt like in that most-excellent comic.

Captain America is tied with Batman as my second favorite comic book character, after Iron Man, so I really hope they create a great film about the most patriotic hero ever. And who would I like to play Cap? Colin Ferguson, of course, from Eureka.
Lastly, Cap will be shot at Raleigh Studios in Manhattan Beach, California, as will Iron Man 2, Thor, and The Avengers.

Great idea about Colin Ferguson! Y’know, no one EVER seems to put genre TV stars on their movie cast wish lists.
Let this mark the beginning of an awesome trend amongst fanboys! ;o)
Now if only I can think of a Marvel character that Kevin McKidd can play from Rome. I would have said Ray Stevenson but he’s already going to be Punisher… It’ll be funny to see the two of them on the same screen again, lol.
@ Ken J,
I agree, Kevin McKidd is pretty cool.
I remember him being on IMDB rumoured to be Thor for well over a year a while ago.
It’s seems like nitpicking but I agree Captain America : The First Avenger , sounds better. Plus Kevin McKidd would be an awesome Cap.
Nice, I’m glad it’ll be taking place in the 40s, as it should. But I’d like it to be titled simply Captain America–he needs no subtitle. And I’m not so sure about Kevin McKidd, from what I’ve seen of him he would need to buff up considerably to portray a believable Cap.
I hope they don’t make the same mistake with Cap as they did with IM by revealing to much of the movie before the release.
I think McKidd doesn’t have the right look for Cap. I am not sure who does, possibly Aaron Eckhart? He needs more of an all American look than McKidd has. He might be a little too old based off the history of Cap but I think he is close enough that it would work.
we must remember what all little tidbits of Cap they went ahead and spilled already on the Hulk and IM movie.
we know that the serum still exists because of general Ross & abomination, that IM has a shield in his personal workshop…
so are we going to see on this movie a lost shield? Tony trying to create more of them? but on such a technologically advanced era?
Ekhart might be a great choice, but he’s a bit too old if they want to go by the comics.
Of course a 40yo Captain America might play better against a late 40s Tony Stark…
Vic
Well, I never suggested McKidd for Captain America, I was saying I wonder if there was a Marvel character that he would look right for because it would be cool to see him and and Ray Stevenson again, lol.
I thought Tom Jane would look alright for Captain America.
Kevin Mckidd as Hawkeye maybe.
BTW, I was being “funny”. ;o)
I just find it funny how fanboy wishlists are almost exclusively contained to actors from Buffy or the Sci-Fi Channel.
Having said that, I think Kevin McKidd would be a top choice for Thor! He has the right look for Donald Blake and would be a little more realistic on film as the God of Thunder than some hokey blonde bodybuilder – particularly in the more gritty and believable world Marvel’s working in.
They have to get two actors to play Austin. One the pre Cap, and then the super solider version.
(Imo)
Eckhart would be too distracting.
I don’t know about you but he’s typecast to me. All the actors that do Super hero films are all typecast.
One reason why I can’t stand Sam Jackson. He breaks that rule for laughs. (Unbreakable my aas)
I don’t have the perfect choice but not Eckhart.
Way too as well.
Good call on Colin Ferguson. I hope they dont mess this one up though because that would be a real shame.
Also, I’ve been reading your stuff for a while now and just want to say your doing a great service to the movie-going community. This is where I get most of my movie news and I’m a film major! hahahaha
hells yes VIC !
i am so with you on Colin Ferguson playing cap.
cuz i posted it like 4 months ago on the ” you won’t believe who marvel wants to play cap”
post yall put up a while back.
the resemblance is uncanny !
Cole Hauser for Captain America.
Nathan Fillion from Serenity/Firefly should play Captain America.
I’ve thought about it personally and to be honest, I’m fairly convinced that Triple H actually WOULD be the best choice for casting as Thor. People knock him as if he can’t act, but stop and think for a minute about how much acting is actually involved in pro wrestling, and an actor can only be considered as good as the roles they are cast for. No one ever thought Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson would be great in a Disney kids film, but he was really great. That aside, Triple H does look practically as close as physically possible as you could for Thor. However, lately Marvel seems to be bent on getting big name ACTORS to be leads. Triple H may look like Thor and be a big name, but acting has been an integral part in the success of the Marvel line of movies.
Now as to Cap, this is probably THE hardest casting they will ever do. I mean so many people will be pissed no matter who they choose, and in the end it’s gotta be done right. I’m not so convinced on anyone in particular, but I would have to say Mark Valley of Boston Legal is a damn good choice. He looks like a dead ringer for cap with his large physique and blue eyes. He even has the square jaw thing going for him, and hes a compelling actor. However, I don’t honestly think Marvel would cast a television actor for such a lead based on their latest castings.
Who knows, the house that Stan Lee built and Ari are always full of surprises, and I mean they did let Ben Affleck play Dare Devil and it was still a good movie. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
Also worth mentioning in hind sight, Brad Pitt could be one hell of a Thor, and its not a big stretch after his epic role in Troy.
First of I dont think Brad Pitt has a super hero character in him. I just dont buy it he’s to pretty boy. Troy personally I think was a stretch for him. As for Cap I like Colin Ferguson, but lemm throw out 2 names I think might look the role really well. How bout Jason Lewis, and how about Eric Dane? Feel free to shred my opinion to pieces like everyone seems to like doing on here anyways! But seriously what do you guys think?
I agree Stuart, Pitt sucks!
I’ll take anyone over him, except Tom Cruise,,,
He’s the worst.
For my two cents, folks, I would love to see the Marvel people choose Brad Beyer from Jericho, the guy who played Stanley. True, they probably won’t, seeing as he’s a TV actor, but after watching him in Jericho, I think he’s got the looks, physique, charm, and acting ability to pull it off.Anyobody else agree?
Cap top 3:
1) Paul Walker
2) Eric Dane
3) Wentworth Miller
4) David Boreanz
lol not to be a dick lol but thats 4! I dont know why I dont like paul walker, lol! But I like your other 3, even though wentworth miller may be just a lil on the small side
doing my best Joe Biden impression. Sorry. I saw an ad for Bones on tv while I was putting the list together and thought Boreanz might not be bad. To tell you the truth though, the more I try to think about who has the it factor to play Captain America, the more I come back to John Hamm from Mad Men. He has the look of that WWII generation, on the show he is believable in flashbacks as a younger version of himself. He has the square jaw and the right height and frame. I think I have to switch around everything and say he’s Cap.
I just hope this movie is about Captain America “only” — No other superheroes in the movie. This is Cap, we’re talking about–the one and only, the original. Don’t need no avenger or other superheroes popping up to assist Cap, it would just goof up the story.
Unless it’s a cameo, that would still be cool, lol.
You know, now that you mention it, Jon Hamm would probably be a damn fine choice. It almost “feels” right when you think about it. He is an amazing actor, and he does literally just look like he was ripped straight out of that time. He’s just got that 50’s look. I honestly wouldnt be too surprised if they did cast him. Nice idea.
just to stress that idea more….AMAZING IDEA!
