By the time Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi rolls out, former stormtrooper turned Resistance fighter Finn will already be a big shot. That is according to John Boyega, who plays the role in the Star Wars space saga. Despite suffering a massive injury that left him out of commission by the end of Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens, the previously no-name First Order soldier is up for a new adventure that will potentially have a massive impact on the fate of the galaxy.

The last time fans saw Finn, Daisy Ridley's Rey was bidding him goodbye in D'Qar before heading off to Ach-To to find Mark Hamill's Luke. Since then, the injured fighter (courtesy of a slash of the lightsaber of Adam Driver's Kylo Ren on his back), he has not been really seen in action. Instead, in the first trailer for the Rian Johnson film, he is still encased in what looks to be a smaller and possibly portable kind of a Bacta tank recuperating from his battle wounds.

That being said, Boyega reveals that despite being unconscious in the trailer, his character has made quite a name for himself for being in combat with no less than First Order commander, Kylo. The actor caught up with EW at Star Wars Celebration in Orlando, Florida and gushed about the genuine fame that Finn would be enjoying:

John Boyega as Finn in Star Wars The Last Jedi

“The funny thing is, between VII and VIII, Finn’s now a big deal! He is now a big deal. Imagine that – you get taken down by Kylo Ren. Think about what the gossip’s going to be like in the Resistance. ‘Oh, that’s the guy that got slashed down by Kylo?’"

Fans can revel in the fact that, yes, Finn will eventually be waking up in The Last Jedi with franchise newbie, Kelly Marie Tran who plays fellow Resistance member, Rose, as they embark on an adventure that could be of help for his new allies. But Boyega adds that while being alive is a good thing, functioning in tiptop shape is another. He reveals that "there’s some additional few things that need to be done to make him mobile. He’s definitely in a place where he needs some help.”

By the sound of it, Finn may have a mechanical apparatus attached to his body to help him move easier -- similar to the body attachments that Forest Whitaker's Saw Gerrera sported in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Although in the recently released promotional Vanity Fair Cover featuring him, Tran, Oscar Isaac's Poe Dameron and BB8, he looks like he weathered his injuries just -- the only difference is that he now has his own Resistance jacket proving that he is finally one of the good guys.

Whatever Finn's mission in Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi, his role in the sequel will likely be pivotal in the Resistance fight against the First Order.  While Rey and Luke are on their own on a secluded island and mastering the ways of the Force, it is up to him, Poe, Rose, and Carrie Fisher's General Organa to play the upfront fight. It is only a shame that Harrison Ford's Han Solo will no longer be around so Finn could finally prove to him how much of a "big shot" he is to the Resistance, like he claimed in The Force Awakens.
