I think most of you already know I am a huge Trekker; and if you don’t know, just look at my name, or call-sign. If this doesn’t work, a franchise that I have grown to love will be dead. The best part of this is that the group that wounded Trek (Berman, Braga) are not involved. I have great hopes that Abrams will infuse the Trek universe with “Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations”. qaplaQ!!!

Thanks for the head’s up! After reading Harry’s impressions of his visit to the editing room, I must admit that what I hope for this film may actually occur.

As a writer myself and ardent fan of Star Trek, I have often wondered when someone would FINALLY go back to the formula that launched this remarkable franchise in the first place…

Spartan surroundings that actually complimented the characters, compelling relationships (that gave the characters wieght above the special effects), and a sense of tradition and history not soooooooooooo far removed from our current day legends.

Granted, with the state of CGI and its obvious ability to take us “WHere no man has gone before”, too many studios use these special effects much like a drunk uses the nearest lamp post – for support instead of illumination.

I hope (and believe) that Mr. Abrams will not let the iconic characters of this franchise suffer that fate.

What you said Vic. Big TOS fan and believe the Kirk-Spock-McCoy triad is an iconic and Shakepearean one. The characters transcend the original actors and are open to interpretations by new performers.

Having JJ on board is exciting, having Nimoy approve the script and come on board is very exciting: I trust his sensibilities, and having Giacchino write the score is equally exciting.

I’m very excited for this.

Sweet. I love Star Trek…even more than Star Wars (if you can believe that!) I have enjoyed ALL the series and movies (although Nemesis was weak, as was ST 5), and I was HOPING that we would have a DS9 movie to kind of tie things up in that ST timeline before the prequel, but I can understand WHY they want to do the prequel first. I’m looking forward to this movie, but I HOPE it is MUCH MUCH better than Cloverfield!

Fingers crossed on the new film.
And I have always thought Insurrection got a bad rap.
The space battles were not that bad.
and frakes also gave us land based action as well.
nothing wrong with mixing it up.

I thought Star Trek : Insurrection was kind of loosely based on James Hilton’s The Lost Horizon, a novel written in the 1930’s about a plane crash in the Himalayas and how the survivors find Shangra-La. I read the book and saw a lot of similarities between the movie and the book and it made me appreciate the movie more…I thought it was a good movie

I have all TOS(my fav),STNG, and DS9 as well as some of STV and STE on DVD but I am really suprised at how uniterested I am in this…I was hoping they’d go later into the Star Trek universe and amp it up with a more military minded Fedartation being attacked from all sides and in real danger of imploding or extinction and having to form alliances that would be questionable in order to ensure it’s survival…Start it off by wiping out the Voyager and NExt Gen characters in a major battle that sees most or all of these characters destroyed and the Federation in ruins..Kind of making them have to rebuild it from scratch or from the brink of extinction into something that is not really recognizable in what we know as the Federation today…

Anyone agree with me on this or am I way off the mark..

I’m a LOOOONG time Trek fan and my favorite series is TOS. Despite this, I’ve been cautiously optimistic regarding this film, perhaps because I feel that the previous folks in charge have driven it into the ground and murdered the franchise.

I’m willing to give this a chance, I just hope they don’t screw it up.
