The good folks over at Batman-on-Film found a brand new article in the New York Times in which they spoke with various members of the production. Included in their report are two new images from the film, once of which you see above.

Christian Bale, who played Batman in Batman Begins and will reprise his role in this summer’s The Dark Knight had this to say about how the character will be different in this new film:

This escalation [of crime in Gotham City] has now meant that he feels more of a duty to continue. And now you have not just a young man in pain attempting to find some kind of an answer, you have somebody who actually has power, who is burdened by that power, and is having to recognize the difference between attaining that power and holding on to it.

Bale also said something that is pretty much my mantra here at Screen Rant, although there are those that disagree with me:

“I believe that even the most popcorn-like movie can be done incredibly well,”

That, my friends, is exactly right.

Regarding Heath Ledger’s performance, director Chris Nolan had this to say:

‘It’s stunning, it’s iconic, it’s going to just blow people away.”

The Dark Knight opens on July 18th, 2008 on both conventional screens and in IMAX.

  1. You mean Dark Knight is a Batman movie???

  2. I was going to add, you’re joking, but Kahless would do something to me with his bat’leth.

  3. A few things come to mind, huuuu-maaaan!!

This movie is going to be gigantic! I’m even considering going to the midnight show; the last 2 movies (Spider-Man 3, X-Men 3) I went to for the midnight show made me not want to do another midnight show again.

  4. LOL, Jim! :-)

Looks great….Ledger’s Joker doesn’t look as disturbing in that pic, IMO.

    I can’t wait for this movie! :-)

When do we see another trailer????

Too bad the batsuit isn’t black, gray and more flexible tho. Like this:

^ Those are what I want the suit to look like. (maybe in JLA???) :-)

I still can’t wait to see this tho….hopefully Two Face IS in it a good bit. :-D

  5. Kahless,
Midnight movies rock. The true fans are present. There is a good part of the audience laughing at “in jokes” or twittering about Stan Lee’s appearance (well, not in a Batman flick). There’s electricity and hearty interactivity. The buzz beforehand and the few super fans in costume or t-shirts really bring a community aspect. Most people are paired up or in groups–but if you’re like me, and don’t have lots of midnightish friends, a little assertiveness can bring movie-duration buddies.

Um. Would you trust him with your sister?

  6. can’t wait can’t wait

On midnight shows, the last one I went to was Attack of the Clones, guess how many LOLs there in that theater.

From the sound of things, Nolan is really creating Gotham with characters popping in and out rather than the usual: character appears, becomes a villain, villain dies within two hours. Hopefully IM and Hulk pull it off and really create an expansive universe for the Avengers.

  7. LOL, Jim!

Of course not! I wouldn’t want ANY version of the Joker near me or any loved one. :-)

…and hopefully Jerry Robinson has an appearance in this.
