A brand spankin’ new trailer for X-Men Origins: Wolverine has been released today and we have it here for your viewing pleasure.

The trailer really isn’t all that much different from the first official trailer released back in December. It is structured the same way and shows us a lot of the same footage. The main difference is the increased focus on the support characters/other mutants from the Weapon X project.

While much of the video is pretty disorganized, the second half is loaded with action and we get to see snippets of many new action scenes with Deadpool, Gambit, Agent Zero and Cyclops among others.

Check it out and see what you think:

Did I just see Deadpool firing an optic blast near the end there? Do we even know definitively if that is Deadpool? Something’s not adding up and my confusion arises from this character called Weapon XI who is in the movie but not from the comics.

This mysterious character is apparently involved in the final battle with Wolverine but we don’t know anything about him other than he’s played by actor and martial artist Scott Adkins and that his power(s) have yet to be revealed.

We do know from the comics that Wolverine is known as Weapon X, X representing the Roman numeral of the number 10 not relating to the “X” in “X-Men” – He is the tenth iteration of these experiments of the program, the first to be successfully grafted with an Adamantium skeleton. We can therefore assume, Weapon XI is the next experiment after Wolverine – perhaps created to battle him/bring him back?

Here’s an image I cut out from a screen grab for the film – I did my best to clear up the blur.

Could it be that what we thought was a topless Deadpool all along fighting Wolverine in the trailer with those strange markings/scars on him was this Weapon XI character and that we’ve not yet seen the actual Deadpool yet? Check out our discussion on what may or not be Deadpool here.

There is quite a bit of online speculation from fans and it can be divided into two camps: one side believes that Weapon XI is Deadpool after some experimentation and the other side holds out hope that they are in fact, separate characters (listed as such on IMDB). Since we get a closer look in this trailer towards the end, we can see those those markings on this character don’t really look like scars, more like a drawn on design.

What are your thoughts?

X-Men Origins: Wolverine is directed by Gavin Hood and opens May 1, 2009.

  1. My biggest thing is keeping it true. Not to a Fanboy level, but keep Deadpool’s look that of Deadpool. I’m just praying that Hasbro or whatever toy company that came out with the Origins action figures got it mixed up regarding Deadpool. And this other dude with wierd markings, blades from his arms and laser’s from his eyes is somebody totally different we haven’t seen yet.

  2. im aware of that “Dan” but Carbonadium does rapidly slow down the Healing Process for Wolvie and sabertooth and Daken.

cuz it has been turned in to bullets and knives to use aginst healing mutants.

  3. I am a big fan Rorschach but Carbonadium sounds like a way to serve pasta dude!!

  4. Ya I think that the Weapon XI Guy is a hybrid of different mutants like cyclops, deadpool and maybe baraka (i mean some mutant like baraka from mortal kombat). Hopefully this new genetically modified character is not named deadpool because that would ruin a great character.

Maybe they think they kill deadpool (ryan reynolds character) but they just burn and scar his face like in the comics and leave him for dead. Not knowing hes still alive they name this new cross breed mutant deadpool codenamed Weapon XI.

The trailer does look better than before and if what I said is the case, than it will be a good movie MINUS the lame bone claws that arent in most comics.

  5. i think the mutant wolverine is fighting may be mimic ,my biggest problem why is wolverine taller than sabertooth thats just lame the first xmen almost got it right i think the wrestler sid vicious would have been perfect he already looks like the comic book villian plus hes about 6’10 my biggest coplaint weres logans costume ?

  6. Sorry guys but the weird albino Weapon XI is not deadpool. If you look at the trailer again they show both The Bold dude and “Deadpool” separately with enough screen time to make it clear that they are separate. They clearly show reynolds and they clearly show the albino. The Albino could be a replacement for wolverine as he so boldly left the weapon X team so I have a strong idea that they are of course separate!

  7. @Dean

Cyclops can be in this movie because when they meet up later in life, Logan does not remember his past(which is what Xavier is trying to help him with.

However, cyclops should remember Logan, and gave no indication that they had a past together.

  8. @ Ollie,

That doesn’t necessarily mean anything. For instance, Ryan Reynolds could be himself for the first 45 minutes of the movie then could turn into something else entirely for the rest of the film. A 2-minute trailer couldn’t differentiate that.

  9. @ Kyyle23,

My guess would be that they do not meet in this film. I think when Logan is off on his own, the Weapon X project sends Sabretooth to recruit/kidnap Cyclops because they’re trying to collect mutants for their DNA to make the next superweapon to replace Wolverine.

At least… that’s one possibility. I can see Logan losing memories but not Cyclops.

  10. the Game is rated “M”.
    the movie needs an “R”

  11. OMG, can we please get over this whole rating thing? It doesn’t have to be M, or R, or anything to be cool. Curse words and movie sex lost their “cool factor” when I was 15. We all already know that PG-13 does not eliminate any violence, just nudity and profanity. Two things that really make no improvement to the movie.

  12. @ Ken,

The R-rating is not for sex or nudity – it’s for violence, gore and some nasty language, which is what the Wolverine comics are all about.

Some directors passed on the opportunity to do this movie because they wouldn’t do it rated-R.

  13. Not from what I’ve seen. So many movies get a PG-13 movie with plenty of violence, the only thing they needed to do was keep from showing nudity or using the f-bomb. Gore is the only exception, they have to keep from showing that, but violence doesn’t seem to push the ratings. Live Free or Die Hard comes to mind where it is PG-13 despite people getting shot up, blown up, dropped, chopped up, etc. but would become rated R the second the f-bombs are added back in, and the new Terminator Salvation seems like it’ll be PG-13 despite all of the violence but if they want that one topless scene, then it will be rated R.

Gore is the only thing that can really change the look of the movie that would push the ratings besides profanity and nudity, and I’m not even so sure that would make a Wolverine movie more enjoyable or not. But that’s just my opinion anyhow…

  14. There is no longer a magic button for an R rating, I’ve seen f-bombs and nudity in PG-13 more than once, but really it doesn’t matter imho, cause you can have plenty of violence without gore. Marvel comics more often than not were approved by the comics code authority, which I would easily compare with a PG-13.

  15. @Rob
Cyclops did loose part of his memory when he was a child (he hit his head and lost his memory of how to control his optic blasts). Is he a child in this movie? If so, then yes, he will loose part of his memory.

  16. He’s already lost control of his blasts it seems as he’s wearing red glasses.

My bet is that they don’t meet in the movie.

  17. @ wall

The Stan Lee said the comic code was simply created as a way to clam to the fears of parents, who at the time thought marvel’s comics were too harsh for kids. However the CCA was never really given much atention to the writers of comics and neither from the companies themselves. Basically, the CCA really has no authority

  18. clam=calm

    sorry guys

  19. Fox Does a lot of Bizarre things like releasing DRAGONBALL into the theaters.

  20. After doing some heavy reseach and seeing an unfinished version of the X:men Origins movie, I can confirm that Wade Wilson is the last character that Wolverine fights, as Weapon XI or Deadpool. Though it isn’t confirmed in the movie he is indeed Deadpool but is refered to as Weapon XI.

  21. If you pay attention to Wade Wilson played by Ryan Renolds you’ll see that he has two swords which undoutably deadpools deadly tradmark. Duh!
