Before Crisis: Final Fantasy 7 is not among the many upcoming additions to the FF7 Remake universe. However, Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis is in development and will include a wide range of material from the original FF7 universe instead of the remake's universe. It also means that players probably won't be seeing a Before Crisis: Final Fantasy 7 remake anytime in the near future, but they shouldn't feel that loss too keenly when Ever Crisis releases.

Before Crisis: Final Fantasy 7 is a mobile game that was released in 2004, but never made it to the West. Players control one of Shinra's Turks through a series of missions that take place years before FF7 as they work against Avalanche to stop them from summoning Zirconiade and wiping out human life. While players will run into quite a few of the main FF7 characters throughout this journey, it isn't necessary for understanding FF7 or FF7 Remake.

The overwhelming number of titles makes it difficult to know the best order to play the complete FF7 series. With the upcoming remakes, knowing which titles are needed for the story and which ones are extra is even more difficult. Luckily, Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis will help solve that problem with the original FF7 universe by consolidating a lot of the story content into a single game. Ever Crisis is also the reason that Before Crisis most likely won't be seeing its own remake anytime soon.

Before Crisis Will Be Included In Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis

The development and release of Ever Crisis will make a Before Crisis remake redundant because the content will be included, among the content of many other main and spin-off games and even the movie Advent Children. However, Ever Crisis will not only be reiterating previous FF7 content and will instead have some of its own, unique features such as young Sephiroth, as seen in the Ever Crisis trailer. Although excited, Ever Crisis being a mobile game may make some fans nervous; hopefully, it won't include too many gacha mechanics or focus heavily on microtransactions, as so many mobile games do.

It's an exciting time to be a fan of Final Fantasy 7 with all the attention and remakes it's receiving. Not every player is thrilled about the story choices that Square Enix has made in regards to the new FF7 universe, but FF7 Remake has been overall well-received, and players are still excited to see what will happen next as more content is revealed and released. Even more exciting is the fact that, for many players in the West, Ever Crisis will be their first chance to experience the story of Before Crisis: Final Fantasy 7.
