final destination Final Destination 5 Update

Last week, we confirmed that Final Destination 5 was happening. Now, thanks to Shock Till You Drop, we know that the film will definitely be in 3D (as we expected), and will be full of creative and uber-gory death scenes. Talking with Final Destination 5 producer Craig Perry, STYD’s Ryan Rotten grabbed the following quote.

“If we find the right storyline – and we’re working on it – then we’ll take the lessons we learned from The Final Destination and make the necessary improvements to deliver what audiences expect from this franchise, going back to the original. What I know for sure is that it will be in 3D and deliver inventive, suspenseful, fun kills. That I can promise!”

It’s nice to hear that they are trying to learn from their mistakes on The Final Destination, but, at this point, it’s hard to see how the movie could improve in any way. When the very first Final Destination came out, I remember loving it. Not only did it deliver some pretty terrific death scenes, but it was funny and genuinely original.

With each subsequent sequel, however, the franchise seemed to be focusing more and more on the making the death scenes spectacular rather than doing anything inventive with its plot structure. Of course, for fans of the Final Destination franchise, that’s not a problem, since creative deaths is why each sequel has made its money back and then some.

Perhaps I’m being overly skeptical, but I find it unlikely that Final Destination 5 will do anything significantly different than any of its predecessors. Maybe that’s not a problem though. What do you think? Are you game for another round of in your face 3D horror?

  1. the 2nd one was the best imo, the kills where more creative and 'natural', the 3rd was ok (to much CGI imo) and i didnt even bother watching the whole of 4.
i might watch t after i get some feedback… if they go ahead and make #5

  2. This movie is gonna be in 3D but i bet definitely its plot will be different enough to separate it from its predecessors.Right now some necessary improvements are going on to deliver the audience something according to their expectations.

    smart lipo

  3. I thought they were ending the suffering when they called THE final destination.

  4. I mom used to say if you can't say anything nice, say nothing at all. So….

  5. I actually really enjoy these movies. I haven't seen The Final Destination yet, but I will soon. I definitely think they could learn from their mistakes.

  6. Ok! I've seen them all the first FD was enought, this is just producers and studios at their best, out to destroy another great film. I've said before that the second FD was alright because of A.J Cook and her fine self, but the sequels pretty much were as good as say the sequels to Saw, so hoping they get better with a fith one is just plain sad, give up guys and find something else to make money off of.

  7. I enjoyed parts 1 & 2 a lot. And I agree with jwalka that part 2 is the best.
    3 was decent, 4 I haven't seen yet, so I can't judge that one.

I would like to see and find out how even more creative they can be with the deaths.

  8. i just thought about a idea for final destination 5,have it take place in winter.have a ski resort carrier fall down hill for main accident.then have winter accidents for rest of movie.just thought to put it out there.thank you

  9. They were, but the film unfortunately grossed enought money to get a sequel.

  10. I think that none of the final destination movies were a waste of time or money i just love it.Oh does any one know if they will make final destination video games?I would stand in line for months to get it oh i hope that in 5 they will make enough money to make more and more sequels

  11. i was sad at the end of the 5th movie :(
