Cartoon Network has unveiled a new trailer and some impressive stills from the long awaited 'Beware the Batman'. Can the CGI series win over DC Nation fans and live up to the legacy of Batman's toon past?

Batman has a long and illustrious cartoon history with The Super Friends, Batman: The Animated Series, and Batman Beyond serving as a gateway drug to Gotham and the Dark Knight for generations. Since the turn of the century, though, we’ve seen less and less of the Caped Crusader on TV, with Warner Bros. and DC turning more toward direct-to-DVD animated films like Batman: Year One and the fantastic anthology film, Batman: Gotham Knight.

Now, DC Nation and Cartoon Network are picking up the baton last held by the light and fun Batman: The Brave and the Bold and handing it to Beware the Batman, and now we have a new trailer for the long awaited series.

Guillermo del Toro already has an outline for a sequel and continued mythology for his upcoming robots vs. monsters movie 'Pacific Rim', but Legendary Pictures isn't ready to sign off on 'Pacific Rim 2' yet.

With a summer blockbuster as big as Guillermo del Toro’s robots vs. monsters movie Pacific Rim, it’s understandable that Legendary Pictures would begin planning for a sequel, and had already commissioned a sequel script from Travis Beacham by December 2012. Based on this fact, and the fact that del Toro has been dropping hints about the sequel’s development for some time now, you’d expected Pacific Rim 2 to be a done deal already.

There are, of course, some film franchises that jump right into multi-sequel planning without waiting to see how the first film performs; Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy is an example of this, as is Disney’s ...

Click to continue reading ‘Pacific Rim 2′ Mapped Out But Dependent on ‘Pacific Rim’ Box Office Success

More than a few of our readers probably did a double-take, when last we reported that Universal wants the Fifty Shades of Grey movie – based on E.L. James’ Twilight fan-faction-turned best-selling erotic novel – to be directed by a filmmaker with serious arthouse cred, such as Atonement and Anna Karenina director Joe Wright (among other rumored candidates).

Oscar-nominated filmmaker Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting, Milk) is reported to have even submitted a demo reel while bidding for the Fifty Shades directing job; one which featured Alex Pettyfer (Magic Mike) playing the handsome, but (really) troubled, 27-year old billionaire Christian Grey, no less.
Fans of James Ponsoldt’s 2012 indie hit, Smashed, can rejoice: the trailer for his latest picture, The Spectacular Now, has popped up on the Web. Watch it above.

Coming on the heels of high praise from Sundance (as well as smaller festivals like the Independent Film Festival of Boston), the film follows gregarious, directionless high school senior Sutter Keely (Miles Teller) as he parties and drinks his way through his final year of secondary education. He also falls in love with Aimee Finicky (Shailene Woodley), the quiet, nice girl he never thought twice about until the morning he woke up after passing out on her lawn.

Here’s the official synopsis:

This adaptation of Tim Tharp’s novel The Spectacular Now captures the insecurity and confusion of adolescence without looking for tidy truths. Young actors rarely portray teens with the maturity that Teller and Woodley display, and they are ...

Click to continue reading ‘The Spectacular Now’ First Trailer & Poster: Modern Teen Love Story

Free Birds – previously titled Turkeys – is the first feature-length 3D animated theatrical release for Real FX Creative Studios (Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away).
The CW’s vigilante justice show Arrow recently drew to a very dramatic close in its season 1 finale, but it won’t be gone for long. The show was renewed for season 2 a while ago, due to its highly successful ratings, and star Stephen Amell has promised that when the show returns we’ll find the characters very much changed by the events at the end of “Sacrifice”, and has suggested that Oliver Queen may have left Starling City entirely.

Showrunner Greg Berlanti is currently working on more than just the next season of Arrow, however.
Close to eight months have passed since Disney bought Lucasfilm from George Lucas – with the intention of producing new Star Wars movies – and since then, we’ve spent a lot of time on speculation concerning which characters from the previous live-action Star Wars installments will make an appearance in director J.J. Abrams’ Episode VII; not to mention, whether or not bringing back original cast members is a good idea at all.

A month ago the first major casting rumor for a new character – one who would be introduced in Episode VII - began making the rounds, thanks to claims that Abrams may reunite with actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers on the film.
There has been so much intrigue about The Amazing Spider-Man 2, in major part because of director Marc Webb’s steady stream of teaser photos, as well as multiple photos from the NYC sets where the film is shooting.
Fans of the Farrelly brothers comedy Dumb and Dumber have been awaiting a proper sequel for years (we don’t really count the prequel, which the Farrellys weren’t involved in), but it has only been within the last year that things on the project finally appeared like they were coming together. The film had a script – re-written by the Farrellys themselves – a new title and a studio, in Warner Bros., backing the entire project.

However, when WB suddenly dropped the film last week, it marked yet another setback in the plagued project’s history. With no studio and no financier, it certainly looked like fans may never see their dream of a Dumb and Dumber sequel come to fruition. However, those fans can ...

Click to continue reading Universal Picks Up ‘Dumb and Dumber To’

With the success of both Man of Steel and The Dark Knight Trilogy comes renewed evidence that DC Comics and Warner Bros.’ flagship superheros are respectively worthy of supporting big-budget movie franchises – but what about those other heroes like Wonder Woman, The Flash or even Aquaman?

The future of DC’s Movieverse is still uncertain – which is why we have plenty of time to discuss the merits of each and every one of these “second tier” heroes on the DC roster. In this installment, we’ll pitch you on 5 reasons that Aquaman could be THE next big DC/WB movie franchise.

In 12 Years a Slave, award-winner Chiwetel Ejiofor – a fan-favorite thanks to his roles in sci-fi fare like Serenity and Children of Men – portray Solomon Northup, a real-life African-American musician who lived and raised his family in pre-Civil War New York. In 1841, Northup was tricked, kidnapped and sold into slavery, based on the lie that he was a runaway from Georgia; he thereafter spent (you guessed it) twelve years enslaved in the South, before he finally regained his freedom.

It’s been a good nine years since last we saw Ron “I’m Kind of a Big Deal” Burgandy (Will Ferrell) on the big screen in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgandy. Will Ferrell, of course, has had plenty of box office successes in the time since – e.g., Talladega Nights and Megamind - but nothing that has really surpassed Anchorman in terms of pop cultural recognition. Maybe that’s why he’s making Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.

The sequel, co-written and directed by Adam McKay, sees the return of Burgandy’s team – Bryan (Paul Rudd), Brick (Steve Carell), and Champ (David Koechner) – to the news after years of being off the air, this time in the always hilarious 1980s. Cue the Journey music.

Unsurprisingly, the trailer is less about showcasing the plot of the film and more about showcasing the ...

Click to continue reading ‘Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues’ Trailer: Welcome to the 1980s

[Update: International LEGO Movie trailer added!]

It may have taken years from the time it was first announced, but Warner Bros. has finally revealed the first trailer for The LEGO Movie.
Featuring a star-studded cast – led by Guardians of the Galaxy frontman Chris Pratt – and the likes of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman, the film looks to offer laughs and action for far more than just fans of the multi-colored toys.

With Dexter lying on the table, wrapped in saran wrap, and ready to shuffle off this mortal coil, Showtime is looking to aggressively promote their impending new drama, Ray Donovan, and they’re looking to do more than hit you with a barrage of billboards and commercials to do it.

Following the path that they laid out back in late 2011 with the premiere episode of House of Lies, Showtime is making the first episode of Ray Donovan available via On Demand and YouTube more than two weeks prior to the June 30th premiere date.

Some of the drama behind the making of Sony and NBC’s continuing education comedy show Community has been almost as fascinating to watch as the show itself. Creator and showrunner Dan Harmon was unceremoniously fired from the show after season 3, and he subsequently issued an account of his deposition in which he stated flatly: “I’m not saying you can’t make a good version of ‘Community’ without me, but I am definitely saying that you can’t make my version of it.”

Harmon was recently reinstated as showrunner in time for the start of production on season 5, hinting in his announcement that star Joel McHale had thrown his weight around a little to help bring the show’s original creator back.
Following the announcement that Disney had purchased Lucasfilm, and intended to make a new batch of Star Wars movies, one question immediately came to the forefront of the discussion: what role would creator George Lucas play in the series going forward? In the original acquisition announcement, it was asserted that Lucas would serve as a “creative consultant” on future Star Wars movies (but not direct) with Amblin Entertainment co-founder, Kathleen Kennedy taking the role of Lucasfilm president (and unofficial franchise overseer).
