MCat says:

Are you kidding? Kurtzman and Orci again! How do these guys keep getting jobs? It’s beyond me.

Daniel F says:

Mcat they keep getting work because Star Trek was great.

Daniel F says:

I should add Mcat that while Transformers and number 2 as well were both horrible pieces of trash they made a huge amount of money.

So they keep getting work because they can write great movies like Trek and they tend to bring alot of money to films they are attached to. Trek and both craptastic transformers films.

ashn says:

Star Trek definitely was great, and they have done other good work too. Whatever you may think of them, they have earned where they are.

MCat says:

alright alright I understand Transformers 1 and 2 were craptastic.

These guys also wrote some other garbage besides those movies and I don’t know how much they had to do with Star Trek being awesome. That’s up in the air for sure.

Daniel F says:

Well Mcat they wrote Star Trek so I’m guessing they had a lot to do with it being good. Also as I pointed out they make money. With the Transformers franchise and Star Trek now they are money makers. You can bet people want to make money.

Gary says:

MCat, Orci and Kurtzman were the ONLY writers associated with the Star Trek script.
They had EVERYTHING to do with the fims success!

Daniel F says:

Gary they had a lot to do with it like I said, but not everything. There were also terrific actors and JJ did a great directing job as well. Script, directing and acting are the three main pieces for the most part.

MCat says:

I don’t know Gary. Most peoples complaints from the movie, the few that there were, had to do with the plot holes. That comes from the writers.

Daniel F says:

MCat not always. Sometimes the director drops certain things because he doesn’t feel it’s important and it sometimes creates plot holes.

Max says:

Come on now. Transformer 1 was good. People were far too critical of it. However Transformers 2 DESERVES all the crap it’s getting. THAT was a piece of trash. Star Trek was fantastic as well.

Daniel F says:

No transformers one wasn’t good. That’s fine if you like it, but it wasn’t good.

MCat says:

Daniel
transformers was good. If you didn’t like it that’s fine.

SenR says:

Transformers (1) was exactly what it was supposed to be; they wrote for their audience, and obviously the audience responded (and given the box office, same with 2, actually). And Star Trek was great. Some of the people who want to fuss about these two seem to want to say that everything bad about Transformers 2 was their fault, while everything good about Star Trek was due to everyone but them. Please. Seems to me they deliver exactly what they’re asked to deliver, and god knows it seems that trekkie one at least went more than out of his way to make the ST fans happy.

I rather suspect if/when Cowboys and Aliens turns out great it’ll be the same thing (”oh, it must be Downey and Favreau who made it great…not the guys who actually wrote it. They suck.”). Obviously most people who go to movies don’t agree.

InRainbows says:

So what does this mean for Iron Man 3?

English says:

Didn’t Alexn and Orci say they had next to no involvment in writing the Transformers 2 script and they just got another guy to do most of the work? Still, sounds awesome, all they need now is ninja’s.

@InRainbow

Good question. He’s doing Iron Man 2 in about 14 months from start of production to release, so for me the question is more about whether he can fit in Avengers (he’s interested in directing it) which opens Summer 2012.

Iron Man 3 will probably be released in 2013.

2013? But..but..the world comes to an end in 2012. :-)
