I first wrote this two years ago, but I thought it would be a nice post to dust off and put in front of Screen Rant readers once again.
If ever there was a time of year for traditions, this is it – and many people have movies they watch with friends and/or family that are part of that (yours truly included).
So in the comments below, please share your top/favorite Holiday films!
I’ll start of with my favorites:
10. Scrooged (Carol Kane stole the movie)
9. Home Alone (I balk every time my wife wants to watch it but I always end up liking it)
8. White Christmas (Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye, c’mon!)
7. Die Hard (“It’s Christmas Leo – a time of miracles.”)
6. A Christmas Carol (the George C. Scott version)
5. The Santa Clause (so sue me – I think it’s funny and touching)
4. Elf (the only movie in which I’ve really enjoyed Will Ferrell)
3. A Christmas Story (big time nostalgia for me)
2. Miracle on 34th Street (the original, of course)
1. It’s a Wonderful Life (Best. Christmas. Movie. EVER. We save this one for Christmas day.)
OK, now it’s YOUR turn.
And Merry Christmas from your friends at Screen Rant!

Wow, a lot of good choices. I want to like Polar Express, but I actually think Hanks ruins it for me. It seems so indulgent of him to fill all those roles. I would’ve liked a wider range of actors and their body motion capture rather than just Hanks and some kid (or did Hanks do the kid, too?)
Hurm….my must watch list:
“Christmas With The Joker” (Batman: TAS)
“Holiday Knights” (Batman: TAS)
“Comfort and Joy” (Justice league animated series)
I know, I know, comic book cartoons, but I always watch those no matter what lol. Onto the rest:
Scrooged
Grinch (animated….the live action movie is meh…Boris Karloff rulez!)
It’s a Wonderful Life
Home Alone (1&2)
Jingle All the Way
A Christmas Story
Muppet Christmas Carol
Bad Santa
Jeff Dunham’s Christmas Special (love dem puppets!)
ah…what the hell. Santa Clause (1…hate the sequels)
And on the flip side, I admit to enjoying a few South Park x-mas episodes, the Family Guy x-mas episode, and of course, Robot Chicken’s “Half assed Christmas Special”. God help the classics of the future…..
“A look Back at ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’”, anyone see this:

Anyhoo…
MERRY CHRISTMAS, SCREENRANT!
–Your loyal fan,
Kel (KEL :-p….surprise!)
Scrooged: “They can’t see her nipples, and these guys are REALLY looking!”
A Christmas Carol: George C. Scotts’ version is the only version.
The Bishops Wife: Yes, I know Grant was gay but he made a terrific angel.
Grinch: NOT the embarrassing Jim Carrey remake
It’s a Wonderful Life: The Perfect CHRISTmas movie.
Merry CHRISTmas, Vic and all youz’ guys at Screenrant!!
In no particular order:
Christmas Carol (1951-Alastair Sim. The DEFINITIVE version. Original b&w, not the horrifying colorized version)
It’s a Wonderful Life (surprisingly dark, not the sentiment-fest everyone thinks it is)
A Christmas Story
Die Hard
Muppet Christmas Carol
Grinch (original)
Nightmare Before Christmas
Charlie Brown Christmas
And, to delve briefly into comics: The wonderful Walt Simonson New Gods Christmas tale: “A Highfather Christmas” from the “DCU HOLIDAY BASH #1.” I would looove to see this in an animated form.
Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer
#1 all time for me, without a doubt!
It’s a Wonderful Life
Holiday Affair
Bishop’s Wife
The Man Who Came to Dinner
A Christmas Carol / Scrooge / Scrooged
Miracle on 34th Street
Christmas in Connecticut
Almost forgot Boondocks: A Huey Freeman Christmas.
Ha! What about Emit Otter’s Jug Band Christmas
Mainly lurking, looking for Christmas Carol with George C Scott. My best Christmas movies are (no real order):
– Scrooge with Albert Finney
– Scrooged
– Scrooge with Patrick Stewart
– It’s a Wonderful Life (Jimmy Stewart)
– Miracle on 34th street (1947?) version
– Miracle on 34th street (1973?) version
– Elf
– Christmas Story
Without doubt the best Christmas movie ever was the original (1947) version of ‘Miracle on 34th Street’. It had everything; and something for everyone. And what’s more, it depended entirely on the quality of the acting/directing/ and an actual storyline. Great to the very last scene.
1. Fred Clause
2. Elf
3. Home Alone 3
4. Home Alone 2
5. Home Alone 4
6. Jack Frost
7. Home Alone (original)
8. Miracle on 34th Street
9. The Santa Clause
10. The Polar Express
I mean Jack Frost (Michael Keaton)
Hey Vic, why not Home Alone 2 man? Personally thats my best.
I’ll Be Home for Christmas
So…
1) Home Alone 2
2) Jingle All The Way
3) Jack Frost (Micheal Keaton of course)
4) The Nightmare Before Christmas
5) A Muppets Christmas Carol….how could you forget that Vic?
6) The Life and Adventures of Santa Clause
7) Any of the Charlie Brown Christmas cartoons
9) Olive the other Reindeer
10) and The Town Santa Forgot
Now, I can’t see anyone beating that.
Vic,
THANK YOU for this haha! Great list!
Here is mine:
10) A Christmas Story (I needed to put this on just because of tradition. I put it in the #10 spot because of the fact that I have watched it way too much in my lifetime and just kind of have gotten sick of it.)
9) Elf (I’m not the biggest fan of Will Farrel, but he made this movie a classic in my mind!)
7) Die Hard & Die Hard 2 (I’ll put these on it because John McClane kicks A$$!!)
6) Bad Santa (I need to put this movie on here because of how damn funny it is.. Billy Bob as a Santa? Priceless.)
5) Jack Frost (Michael Keaton as a talking snowman. Where could you go wrong?! Yet another movie that I had grown up with and still love. Just watched it yesterday actually!)
4) Scrooged (Bill Murray is one of the funniest people alive and this movie is just perfect)
3) Home Alone & Home Alone 2 (I grew up with these movies and I still enjoy them to this day!)
2) National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (This just HAS to be high on the list for me. I watch this movie every year – just like It’s A Wonderful Life!)
1) It’s A Wonderful Life (Jimmy Stewart is my all-time favorite actor and this movie is just… Well, Wonderful!)
Honorable mentions:
One Fine Day (George Clooney/Michelle Pfeifer Dramedy)
The Polar Express (Tom Hanks, Tom Hanks, Tom Hanks and uh… Tom Hanks!)
White Christmas (Bing Crosby! Unfortunately, I haven’t seen it enough to put it on my list..)
The Santa Clause (I <3 Tim Allen.. That's all..)
Miracle on 34th Street (Matilda or Black & White version?)
Nightmare Before Christmas (That is number 11 in my mind!)
ALL OF THE CARTOON CHRISTMAS SPECIALS (Jack Frost, Santa Clause Is Coming To Town, The Year Without Santa Clause, etc!)
A Christmas Carol (Need I say more?)
Gremlins (Cute and cuddly… Until they're not…)
WOW I forgot a movie… I can’t believe I forgot it.. Sorry A Christmas Story but, you’re off the list!
The Ref (Dennis Leary/Kevin Spacey) is Number 3 and everything below moves down 1 number!
National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation with Chevy Chase is #1 to #10! I just love this movie and it’s a shame I can’t see it in you list Vic
Maybe Christmas vacation & Gremlins but christmas aint christmas without in our house without charlie brown , scrooged & the Grinch
