Luke Evans has expressed interest in a return to the Fast and Furious franchise, either in the ninth installment or the spinoff for his character's brother. Evans played Owen Shaw, the villain of Fast 6, who spent Furious 7 in hospital and made his full return in eighth entry The Fate of the Furious, this time helping out Dom and his family.
The future of the franchise is looking massive. There are two more planned entries left in the main run, with Fast 9 now set for a 2020 release date. Before that (somewhat controversially) will be the spinoff for Dwayne Johnson's Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham's Deckard Shaw, while off-screen the series' live show begins in early 2018.
Screen Rant recently talked with Luke Evans about his new movie, Professor Marston and the Wonder Women, and the conversation turned to the Fast franchise. After discussing his surprise cameo in Fate (which the actor was grateful to hear got a strongly positive reaction), we asked if he'd be open to a further return. Evans said he was very much up for it and preached his love of the series:
"I would be very happy to be involved with them, yes. Fast and Furious has been part of my life now for about four year - more than that. I literally just left the NBC studios and one of the security guys said, "Nice to meet you, Owen Shaw." He called me by my bad guy's character. Not just the first, but the second name. The character really resonates and stuck with people. So I'm in my head very connected to the franchise and very happy he was back in The Fate of the Furious, so who knows? Let's see. Anything can happen as we know."
As the brother of Deckard Shaw, it would be very easy for Owen to turn up in the spinoff, especially as a counterpoint to the central duo's heated bromance. And, now he's somewhat on the good guy's team, there's scope for a part in the massive ensemble of the main series as well. Both projects are in too early stages for Evans to comment on fully, but it's clear that's he's game should the offer come.

It's gratifying to see his continued enthusiasm for the franchise, telling an anecdote that highlights his admiration of the fans and hints at the motivation for a return. Indeed, everyone involved with Fast and Furious is repeatedly grateful to the series' massive, loyal fanbase that only seems to grow louder with each installment (especially Vin Diesel).
Were Owen to return in any way, however, there would need to be the addressing of him switching sides. This was a major point of controversy in Fate, where Deckard was welcomed into the fold despite killing Han just a movie before. While Owen didn't do anything quite that bad, he did still pose a massive threat and greatly messed with Dom and Letty's relationship - saving Toretto's child may not be enough to make up for that immediately.
