The new Star Wars canon has changed the universe: some ships no longer exist, and the statistics and metrics for measuring ship speed has changed. There's much more room for interpretation concerning how fast ships are, though new books on Star Wars ships that have been released accompanying The Force Awakens include detailed (and new) statistics. All the ships on this list are Star Wars canon and their ranking utilizes a number of different sources to present them in the most logical order.

While both hyperdrive and sublight speeds are taken into account, the ranking is based on sublight speeds unless otherwise stated. Some ships on this list are given measurements of sublight speed in kilometers per hour, which is understood as a speed measurement in a standardized atmosphere (because of space's lack of friction, a standardized atmosphere is used to measure ship speeds). Other ships will have hyperdrive statistics, including the "Class" of hyperdrive. Basically, the lower the "Class", the faster the hyperdrive. Note: not all ships have statistics and metrics that are based in the new canon.

It remains to be seen where Rogue One's (2016) U-Wing will fall on this list so, for the moment, we opted not to include it.

Here are 15 Fastest Ships In The Star Wars Galaxy.

15. Slave I

Boba Fetts Slave One in Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back

The Slave I is a Firespray-31 class patrol and attack craft which has been heavily modified by its owners, Jango Fett, and later his son, Boba Fett. While in Star Wars Legends the Slave I had a Class 0.7 hyperdrive, it now has a Class 1 hyperdrive. Despite this slight downgrade, a Class 1 hyperdrive is state-of-the-art and rivals other impressive ships, such as Grad Moff Tarkin's Carrion Spike. In the new canon, the only ship that sports a faster hyperdrive is the Millenium Falcon.

While the Slave I is listed as having a maximum speed of 1000 kmph, in the game Star Wars Battlefront the Slave I is faster than X-wings or TIE Fighters. Over the years, it was kept flying through repairs and enhancements made by Jango Fett, Boba Fett, and the space pirate Hondo Ohnaka. By the time that Boba Fett was piloting it, the Slave I could out-fly just about any ship.

14. Quadjumper

Finn Rey and BB-8 Run to the Quad Jumper in The Force Awakens

The Quadrijet transfer spacetug, or the "quadjumper", is featured in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) on the planet Jakku. When Rey and Finn run from the First Order's strike on Niima Outpost, Rey leads them towards the fastest ship to make their escape. Only after the TIE fighter destroys the quadjumper does she change directions and choose the YT-1300 light freighter (which is, to her surprise, the Millenium Falcon). A YT-1300 light freighter can reach speeds of around the speed of an X-Wing, which means that if a pilot like Rey would choose the quadjumper first, the quadjumper is faster.

The quadjumper may not appear in The Force Awakens for long, but it appears in the book Star Wars: The Force Awakens: Incredible Cross-Sections. The book discusses its purpose of acting as a "tugboat" for larger crafts. Its four large thrusters are clearly powerful and, if unconstrained by another ship, it would be able to propel itself incredibly fast.

13. Gauntlet

The Gauntlet in Star Wars The Clone Wars Television Show

The Gauntlet is Mandalorian warrior Pre Vizsla's personal starship. It is a Kom'rk class fighter made by MandalMotors on the planet Mandalore. The ship was versatile, and acted as both a transport and fighter for Pre Vizsla when he led the splinter group known as the Death Watch during the Clone Wars. Visually, the most striking feature of the ship was its rotating wings, which allowed for improved mobility. The ship also had two powerful turbojets that made the Gauntlet formidably fast both in and out of atmosphere.

The Gauntlet was one of - if not the fastest - troop transport ships in the galaxy. The engines were able to power-up with impressive speed, which allowed the Mandalorian troops that made up the Death Watch to enter and exit combat quickly and efficiently. It could have a crew of up to four, but could carry as many as twenty-four soldiers, which could be deployed while the vessel was still in the air if they utilized jetpacks.

12. Scimitar

Darth Mauls Scimitar Sith Infilitrator in Star Wars The Phantom Menace

The Scimitar was the name of a customized Star Courier, originally built by Republic Sienar Systems. Weapons, a cloaking device, and surveillance gear were added by the Sith, and the ship had a long career in their service as the "Sith Infiltrator". It first appeared in The Phantom Menace (1999), when it was used as Darth Maul's personal vessel during his hunt for Queen Amidala and the Jedi Knights. In his missions, speed would be a necessity, and the Scimitar proved a powerful tool. He used the ship to track them to Tatooine and was able to intercept them there. Later, it was used by both General Grievous and Darth Sidious. A transport for Darth Sidious would need to be both steathy and speedy in order to evade enemy capture.

The Scimitar's speed is listed as 1180 kmph in Ships of the Galaxy - despite its much larger size, it is faster than many smaller starships, including the X-Wing.

11. The Phantom

Hera Pilots the Phantom in Star Wars Rebels

The Phantom is the shuttle-starfighter which docks on the back of the Ghost in Star Wars Rebels (2014). The Ghost's speed of 1025 kmph is around a standard speed for a light freighter. That ship is a VCX-100 model made by the Corellian Engineering Corporation, and it was modified by its owner Hera Syndulla. While Hera's expert pilot skills have meant that the Ghost has outrun its opponents and pulled off some incredible heists, the ship's speed is not above average.

The Phantom is the auxiliary starfighter that attaches to the Ghost's side. It functions both as a landing craft and a starfighter for the Rebels team. While the Phantom did not have the dexterity of many lighter crafts, it could reach speeds of 1200 kmph, making it faster than many other similarly-sized ships throughout the galaxy, including the Rebel X-Wing and the Y-Wing. The Phantom's limitations were less of speed and more of long-distance travel, as it was designed to be a smaller, additional vessel that complements the Ghost.

10. Darth Vader's TIE Advanced

Darth Vader surfs his TIE fighter - Star Wars Rebels.

Darth Vader's TIE Advanced x1 starfighter is an enhanced variation on the traditional TIE Fighter model. TIE Fighters are already fast - their simple design and dual ion engines mean that they are faster than almost any small craft in the Rebel Alliance, with the exception of the A-Wing. Building off of that model, the TIE Advanced was Darth Vader's personal vessel during the reign of the Galatic Empire. He used it on a number of solo missions, including in Star Wars Rebels (2014) and the Darth Vader comic book series. It was also responsible for the destruction of a number of Rebel pilots in the final battle at the end of A New Hope (1977). In addition to customized life support systems, it was also equipped with a hyperdrive, shields, and enhanced weaponry.

While the book Ships of the Galaxy lists its maximum speed at 1200 kmph, Vader's ship has been shown to accelerate and fly faster than the average TIE Fighter. With Vader at the helm, it was undoubtedly a quick and deadly machine.

9. Mirrorbright

Princess Leia on the Star Wars Bloodline Cover

The Mirrorbright is Princess Leia Organa's personal ship in the canonical novel Bloodline, by Claudia Gray. Leia used the ship when she served as a Senator of the New Republic, after the Rebel Alliance's defeat of the Galactic Empire. The ship takes its name from the Alderaanian children's lullaby of the same name. While the ship class and specifics of the Mirrorbright are not revealed in the novel, it is a "W-shaped" transport ship that has been customized to keep Leia out of the hands of her enemies - by Han Solo no less.

Han Solo, along with Leia's assistant and pilot Greer Sonnel, customized the ships' weapons and engines, making it fit for a princess-- and a senator. Considering Han's knowledge of ships and engines, he would undoubtedly choose the best available options for Leia and, at the time of the ship's construction, money would not be a constraint. Additionally, Greer Sonnel greatly admired the ship and, given her history as a starship racer, the Mirrorbright would need to be fast.

8. Shadow Caster

Shadow Caster in Star Wars Rebels

Featured in the television show Star Wars Rebels (2014), the Shadow Caster is a Lancer-class pursuit craft which was used in the beginning years of the Galactic Empire by a bounty hunter named Ketsu Onyo. Ketsu Onyo used the Shadow Caster while working for the Black Sun. After crossing paths with Rebel Sabine Wren (who, like Ketsu Onyo, had been a cadet at the Imperial Academy), Ketsu Onyo helped the fledging Rebel Alliance on two separate occasions against the Galactic Empire. Both times, Ketsu Onyo's ship is clearly the fastest one around, speeding past both Rebel and Imperial forces.

As a pursuit craft, the Shadow Caster was designed to outrun other ships, and Ketsu Onyo showcases its speed in her brief appearances. The ship is equipped with both a hyperdrive and a (surprising) tractor beam. Ketsu Onyo's life is devoted to being one step ahead of Imperial forces, and the Shadow Caster does just that.

7. TIE Interceptor

TIE Interceptor in Star Wars Battlefront

The Twin Ion Engine Interceptor, or the TIE/IN Interceptor, is the fastest model of the TIE line manufactured by the Sienar Fleet Systems for the Galactic Empire. The TIE Interceptor was employed by the Empire during the Battle of Endor, where its improved speed made it a deadly threat to many Rebel starships.

The TIE Interceptor resembles the original TIE/LN model in that it has a circular cockpit centered between two large solar panels. However, unlike the original TIE fighter, the TIE Interceptor's wings are curved and pronged. The TIE Interceptor was also armed with additional weapons, including six laser canons. The primary goal of the design was to make the craft as light (and therefore as fast) as possible, so it does not have shields or a hyperdrive to weigh it down. According to the canonical book Star Wars: Absolutely Everything You Need to Know, its sublight drive can reach speeds of up to 1250 kilometers per hour.

6. A-Wing

Star Wars: Return of the Jedi A-Wing

The RZ-1 "A-Wing" interceptor is a starfighter developed and manufactured by Kuat Systems Engineering, which also produced the Actis class interceptors used by the Jedi in the Clone Wars and the Firespray-31-class patrol and attack craft used by Jango and Boba Fett. A-Wings were used by the Rebel Alliance against the Galactic Empire, most notably at the Battle of Endor and at the Battle of Jakku. They were known to be the fastest starfighters in the Rebel fleet. Later, they were also utilized by the Resistance against the First Order, and will appear in the upcoming Episode VIII.

While the A-Wing model could have a hyperdrive, the Rebel Alliance also removed some hyperdrives and modified the starfighters so that they could be lighter and faster. The A-Wing is faster than the TIE/IN Interceptor, reaching speeds of 1300 kmph.

Notable A-Wing pilots include Arvel Crynyd, the Green Leader at the Battle of Endor, who crashed his ship into the bridge of the Super Star Destroyer Executor; despite the A-Wing's small size, the Executor was destroyed by the impact. The Ossifrage, the ship that Greer Sonnel pilots in Han Solo's "The Gauntlet" race, was also an A-Wing.

5. Jedi Starfighters

Ahsoka Tano and Anakin Skywalker Pilot Jedi Interceptors in Star Wars The Clone Wars

Two models of Jedi interceptors, created by the Kuat Systems Engineering, are featured in the prequel trilogy. Both interceptors did not have hyperdrives, but used hyperspace transport rings in order to travel through hyperspace. The ship's slight designs allowed them to travel at incredible speeds.

The first, the Delta-7 Aethersprite-class interceptor is piloted by Obi-Wan Kenobi in Attack of the Clones (2002). The Delta-7 could travel at up to 1260 kmph.

The Eta-2 Actis Class Light Interceptor is the second model of Jedi interceptors, and was capable of even faster speeds than the earlier model. It appears in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008) television series as well as Revenge of the Sith (2005). Its cockpit and circular window are reminiscient of a TIE fighter. The Eta-2 (as noted in Star Wars: Ships of the Galaxy) is able to reach speeds of 1500 kmph, making it faster than even the famously fast A-Wing.

4. Dooku's Solar Sailer

Count Dooku escapes Geonosis and flies to Coruscant to meet with Palpatine in his Solar Sailer in Star Wars Attack of the Clones

At the end of Attack of the Clones (2002), Count Dooku escapes on a unique-looking ship that deploys a solar sail. The ship is commonly referred to as "the solar sailer", but it is actually a Punworcca 116-class interstellar sloop. Because of the ship's speed, the Jedi forces do not have an opportunity to follow Dooku, and he is able to flee unhindered.

The ship was given to Count Dooku by the Geonosian forces, and it was constructed by a Geonosian company known as the Huppla Pasa Tisc Shipwrights Collective. The solar sail allowed the ship to not need to refuel, and it also increased its acceleration and speed. Not only does the ship have a Class 1.5 hyperdrive, but it also is able to travel at sublight speeds of 1600 kmph. At those speeds, it's no surprise that the Jedi were unable to catch Dooku when he made his escape.

3. J-Type Diplomatic Barge and J-Type Star Skiff

Naboo Star Skiff in Star Wars Revenge of the Sith

Padmé Amidala used the J-Type Diplomatic Barge to travel during the Clone Wars. One such Barge was destroyed by an explosion planted by the bounty hunter Zam Wesell. While Padmé survived the blast, her body double, Cordé was killed. Padmé used another J-Type Diplomatic Barge on subsequent missions. While the precise statistics of the J-Type Diplomatic Barge are now confined to Star Wars Legends, it could reach speeds of up 2000 kmph and had a Class 0.7 hyperdrive. Even though the precise numbers are no longer in the Star Wars canon, there is no reason to assume that the ship's impressive speed would change.

The J-Type Star Skiff is the smaller ship that Padmé used at the end of Revenge of the Sith (2005) in order to fly to Mustafar to confront Anakin Skywalker. In Star Wars Legends, the Star Skiff has a Class 0.5 hyperdrive (rivaling the Millenium Falcon) and powerful Sossen-7 sublight engines.

2. The Carrion Spike

Grand Moff Tarkin Carrion Spike from Star Wars Poe Dameron Comic Books

The Carrion Spike was Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin's personal corvette, which he used to travel between the Outer Rim and Coruscant during the reign of the Galactic Empire. It was later used by Terex of the First Order. While Sienar Fleet Systems was responsible for the construction of the ship, Tarkin utilized every major shipbuilder in the galaxy to make sure that the Carrion Spike was a state-of-the-art ship.

The Carrion Spike had a Class 1 hyperdrive, but it also had a unique ability: it was able to travel through hyperspace for long distances without having to stop and re-navigate. Most ships were forced to make multiple hyperspace jumps as they travelled, but the Carrion Spike was able to travel seamlessly, even from the far-reaches of the Outer Rim to Coruscant. Given this feature, the Carrion Spike is probably the fastest way to get from one side of the galaxy to the other.

1. The Millenium Falcon

Star Wars Millennium Falcon Ahch To

The Millenium Falcon is the fastest ship in the galaxy - just ask Han Solo, and he'll tell you that she "made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs." According to Han, the Falcon has a Class 0.5 hyperdrive, which is definitely the fastest canon hyperdrive. Or, if you don't believe Han, then ask Lando, who owned the ship before he lost it to Han in a game of sabacc. He'll tell you that the Falcon is "the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy!" The Falcon's real record, however, is shown throughout the Star Wars movies, when it consistently outperforms other ships, even when it is falling apart. While the Falcon is a YT-1300f light freighter, it's been so heavily modified by Han that it really is a ship class of its own.

If you believe that Han and Lando are men of their word, then the Falcon is without a doubt the fastest ship in the Star Wars galaxy.
