The Fast & Furious franchise has been a staple of the summer moviegoing season since the series’ inception back in 2001, and even after six sequels, it appears as though it is not slowing down in the slightest. Boasting some of the biggest box office numbers in the history of cinema, the Vin Diesel and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson-led film franchise stands as one of the all-time highest grossing after its run of over 15 years and counting.
Post the critical and monetary success that was Furious 7, the aforementioned action star, Vin Diesel, did not hesitate to inform fans that not only was another sequel in the works – Fast 8 – but the actor additionally gave release dates for two other future franchise films, Fast & Furious 9 along with Fast & Furious 10. But before moviegoers get too far ahead of themselves, we have yet another update to offer on the still-in-production eighth Fast & Furious installment.
In a brief behind-the-scenes sneak peek (video above), Vin Diesel and director F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton) announced that Fast 8 is already half-way through filming. Both the filmmaker and the actor sounded fairly pleased with the film’s progress, stating that picture is exceeding expectations – with Gray proclaiming that Fast 8 is going “phenomenally well.”
In addition to the brief announcement, the video displays a fair amount of behind the scenes footage and, of course, countless explosions and car chases. Hot rods falling from the sky, stuntmen rolling out of moving vehicles, and various shots of the main cast with smiles a mile wide are all on display in this one-minute sneak peek.
While this video was designed to give fans a special look at the highly anticipated Fast 8, the always enthusiastic Vin Diesel, of course, went on to make a few statements, specifically discussing the legacy of the franchise as well its direction moving forward.
It’s really remarkable to see everyone with so much desire to make something that honors all the fans that have been loyal to the franchise for so long. We’re not gonna let up because we know when you’ve got something special, you give it every ounce of your soul.
Vin Diesel is simply one of the most fervent and dedicated performers in Hollywood, so it is certainly no surprise to hear the actor talk about the heart and soul that is continually being poured into the project. What separates this franchise from other so-called popcorn flicks is the dedication and passion brought to the table for each and every Fast and Furious film. It certainly shines through, inviting audiences to truly care about the characters involved.
With Fast 8 less than a year away, it appears as though fans should be looking forward to yet another entertaining and action-packed adventure with Dom, Luke Hobbs, Letty and the rest of the gang.
Fast 8 will open in theaters April 17, 2017, Fast & Furious 9 opens April 19, 2019, and Fast & Furious 10 on April 2, 2021.
