The Rock, also known as Dwayne Johnson, has been taking notes from none other than Vin Diesel. With every Vin Diesel film, the actor constantly shares behind the scenes videos, photos, and teases through his own social accounts to both appease and excite die-hard fans, creating a community around each franchise, especially when it comes to anything related to Fast and Furious. Now that Fast & Furious 8/ Fast 8, directed by F. Gary Gray is in full production, The Rock is also sharing his own set videos, making fans feel like they are a big part of the adrenaline-fueled action.
Since Agent Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) first appeared in Fast Five, he’s quickly become part of the Fast Family. At first he was trying to bring down Dominic Toretto’s (Vin Diesel) crew with his battle jeep because he thought that they killed his fellow DEA agents. But when Hobbs’ team was killed in an ambush by cartel leader Hernan Reyes, he switched sides, knowing that Dom didn’t kill any agents, and helped the crew take down the real criminal. Through the last few Fast films, Hobbes has become Dom’s right-hand man, straight flexing out of his broken arm’s cast and swooping in to rescue the crew at any given moment.
Fans expect the same from Hobbs in Fast 8. The Rock recently posted two new behind the scenes set videos to his personal Instagram account. The first video shows him in the middle some serious action as he punches away at explosions. The second video, he explains that he’s stuck between a “rock” and a hard place; hiding from the cops and the menacing film crew who are really just busting on his “money-maker” face. As production continues, we can expect to see many more behind the scenes looks, from both Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel.
You can watch those set videos below, followed by the latest pic from Fast 8‘s “prison break” sequence featuring Hobbs:
If you’re a Fast fan, than you undoubtedly know that the two most important things in each film are family, and of course, the cars (and Coronas, if you’re curious what the third most important thing would be). In Fast 8, Dom, being an avid love of muscle cars, will be riding dirty in a classic Dodge Charger, that’s modified for cold weather conditions (presumably for the film’s scenes set in Iceland) and has a jet engine under the hood. This may be his fastest car to date, even if the actual prop car only has a V-8 and not a real jet turbine; it still sounds pretty sick.
You can listen to the Ice Charger’s angry growl in the videos below from JadaToys‘ Instagram account.
Although there haven’t been many official plot details concerning Fast 8 made available yet, the star-studded cast is doing a great job at keeping fans in the loop throughout production on the film. This all goes back to the heart of the Fast franchise, which has always been family. With the release of the first movie, The Fast and the Furious in 2001, Diesel set out to create a family-like community surrounding the franchise. That is exactly what these set videos and images from the series’ actors themselves are doing.
Fast 8 opens in U.S. theaters on April 17th, 2017, followed by Fast and Furious 9 on April 19th, 2019, and Fast and Furious 10 on April 2nd, 2021.
