Fast and Furious 7 Release Date Moved Up Fast & Furious 7 Done Shooting; New Release Date Revealed

This latest installment in The Fast and Furious franchise has surely had its setbacks, the most tragic of which was the untimely death of actor Paul Walker. Filming had to shutdown after Walker’s death while Universal decided what to do with their unfinished film, and at one point it was even hinted the studio would scrap the picture and start from scratch.

Eventually, it was decided production would continue on Fast & Furious 7Universal chose to push back its release date from July 11th of this year to April 10th, 2015, allowing the cast and crew more time to work in the necessary re-shoots. This included shooting any of Walker’s remaining scenes with his brothers, Cody and Caleb, standing in as body doubles, with the plan to digitally alter their appearance for the finished film. Fast & Furious 7 went on to have even more problems – including a ballooned budget – but now production is finally over, and the film has a new release date.

That’s right, Variety is reporting that Universal has chosen to bump Fast & Furious 7‘s release date a week earlier to April 3rd, 2015.

Considering Universal had initially intended for Fast & Furious 7 to be released next week, any opportunity to move up its current release date was likely one the studio couldn’t ignore. They’ll already need to continue promoting and hyping the film in order to keep interest high for another year, so any time off that clock is a smart (and money-wise) decision.

This also gives Fast & Furious 7 a larger window to earn back its ever-growing budget before any of next summer’s heavy hitters – The Avengers: Age of UltronMad Max: Fury Road, Tomorrowland - begin their battle to dominate the box office.

Only time will tell if Fast & Furious 7 manages to present a fitting sendoff for Walker’s character, Brian O’Conner. Hopefully not in way that’s crass or in poor taste like an explosive car crash, but something that will provide a satisfying end to the character’s multi-film arc. At the very least, fans can find comfort in knowing they’ll learn O’Conner’s fate a week earlier than expected.

Does Universal’s decision to bump up the release date for Fast & Furious 7 by one week imply that they remain confident in the film? Let us hear from you in the comments below!

  1. I’m wondering just how much Lucas Black’s character will even be in the movie now that they’re done reshoots and all…

    • well from what i read this one is kind of a start of a new franchise..even though it ties into fast 6 and its labeled a revenge movie its still gonna pave the way for future installments and i heard Black is in for atleast the next 3, idk how many more there doing or how long they can keep telling these stories but after this one there suppose to be going back to there roots

  2. Universal doesn’t need to worry this film will be, without doubt, the most successful of the franchise.

Everyone with even the slimiest interest in this franchise will turnout in there droves to say goodbye to the Brian O’Conner character and too Paul as an actor.

    @ Tenabrus

Do you think Lucas Black’s Sean character will be brought more into the family to “replace” Brian (who gets to drive off into the sunset with Mia and the baby) as he was close to Han and he’s had the “audition” at the end of Tokyo Drift?

It always seemed to me that Dom was closer to Han than anyone apart from Brian so with Brian retiring and Han dead (are we sure???) would he take Sean to be his new wingman…. after all Sean is an original Muscle Meathead before he converted to Tuner

    • Just want to confirm something, is Lucas Black the kid from Tokyo Drift? (The main guy?)

      • Nevermind, I forgot I could just type his name in on google. Had a moment there…

        • Yes he is.

          Be rude not to reply

    • They are bringing Paul’s brother in Cody. He is going to be a main character in the storyline after 7. So he might be Dom’s right hand man.

  3. Is there plan for how many movies there will be? Just gonna wait for complete Blu-Ray box. 8? or 9? 10!??

    • There will be sequels until the series stops making money. This is how Hollywood works. And since the Fast & Furious movies are from Universal which really have no other franchises outside of this and Bourne (sort of, as well as their hopes that Jurassic World turns into something), you can bet they’ll milk this cow for as long as they can.

  4. Useless and sequels less to me. No, I am skipping it. I saw first movie and disliked it so no sequels for me.

    • You’ve only ever watched the first movie, and yet you came to read a story on the 7th movie. And even felt the need to read the comments and post 1?

    • Seriously? You’ve only seen the first one? Don’t be a troller. Give the series a chance.

  5. I truly hope this is the last movie in the franchise because even before walker died i thought
This franchise has already run its course storywise though action is entertaining. For sure this
Last movie in this franchise i see at theater.

  6. Wow, amazing and encoureaging news of F7 bEING wrapped and completed ! Yes, definitely the character of Paul would be awaited by one aand all to see a fitting tribute n apt send off.Other than that, all the hard work , effort of all caste, including jASON sTATHAM,lucas black,Tony Jaa,and the fab list with topliners as Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson and others will be a treat and hopefully worth the wait until April 2015. Am lookin forward eagerly for every character and artist within and off course the new touch and flavor that new director will add.Sad ,will be missing out on Han’s character…Later but Better and Absorbing it’s gonna be for sure, the trailers will set the tone…Awiting the first one soon and wish all the entire team of F&F 7 A BIG FRAND SUCCESS ! Truly I/WE miss you Paul…Rickkey

  7. I love the F&F series but I think Fast Five should have been the last movie. I thought F&F 6 was kinda dumb. Hopefully 7 will be better, we’ll see.

  8. I’m due for a new car next Spring. Big and boisterous.

  9. I’m excited to see it, I love F&F franchise. The 4th installment i still my favorite out of them all.

  10. The movie franchise was never supposed to be this big or last this long….Vin

Diesel didn’t come back for 2 Fast 2 Furious but Tyrese as Roman Pierce was introduced along with Ludacris as Tej…Paul Walker didn’t come back for part 3…they take the action to Tokyo where Lucas Black as Sean Boswell learns how to drift but Kung Sang steals the movie from him as his mentor Han.,,,Part 4 …we go back to Vin and Brian as they deal with Letty’s death and take down Braga in Mexico…which leads to part 5, in which the Rock, Paul Walker, Kung Sang, Tyrese, Luda and Vin all appear…to take down a drug lord in Brazil and get filthy rich doing it….Part 6, they came back to save Letty in Europe…..and took the franchise back to Los Angeles at the end where it all started,,,now we get to see how Han’s death is avenged and we get to see Vin Diesel square off against Jason Starham but I am hoping for Jason Starham and Vin Diesel to fight onscreen….there is news, Race Wars 2014 wil be featured,,,i can’t wait to see what Dom and Brian drive,,,the action has gotten bigger and more unpredictable…how will Kurt Russell and Lucas Black be incorporated into the story…my question is….I always envisioned the dude from Machete or even James Elmos from Miami Vice and American Me to play Dom’s father because Toretto sounds very mexiczn to me and Kurt Russell is a little pale..how are they going to explain the fact that he is their father when Dom looks very mixed and Mia looks like she could be somewhat mixed with Latina….because of her dark hair and eyes….they have to really do a good job on make up…

    • rumor is that Kurt is going to play Jesse’s father.

  11. Paul Walker’s death was very tragic. I was thinking how the production would cover up for his role, specially that he was a lead actor in the movie. But Furious 7 really did it and will soon release the movie! I’ve seen a sneak peek here http://www.exploretalent.com/articles/fast-and-the-furious-7-sneak-peak/ , Lucas Black is back and JASON STATHAM IS JOINING THE CAST! What do you think, will he be one of the protagonist? Or the antagonist?
