Vin Diesel isn’t the only Fast & Furious 7 cast member who’s been keeping fans in the loop during the film’s production. Indeed, now that shooting has wrapped on Brett Ratner’s Hercules comic book adaptation (starring Johnson), The Rock has traded in his lion skin and Roman skirt for body armor and combat boots, in order to play Agent Luke Hobbs for a third time in the Fast & Furious series (and he’s posted the images that prove it).

There’s been discussion of a future spinoff film centered around the Hobbs character, but for now that remains unconfirmed. However, seeing how the Fast & Furious franchise is slated to live on for (at the least) two more installments after Part 7 – with director James Wan (The Conjuring, Insidious) expected to evolve the series similar to how his predecessor Justin Lin did on Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift and then later (again) with Fast Five – that increases the likelihood of Johnson as Hobbs getting his own vehicle (pun intended) down the line.

In the meantime, though, The Rock’s fans will have to be satisfied with his supporting role in Fast & Furious 7, as the wrestler/actor teased with the following set image (posted on his Instagram account). The caption reads: “I didn’t bring the cavalry.. I AM the cavalry” On set. 4am. High on dirty thoughts & adrenaline as I wait for my director and partner in crime, James Wan (standing deep in the background) to yell “ACTION”.

On a more intriguing note, Johnson also recently posted a mashup of images showing himself and Jason Statham flexing their muscles something fierce as they work out and/or pummel their opponents. Statham, as you’re probably aware by now, is playing the main antagonist of Fast & Furious 7 (check out his sweet ride). It would be an understatement to say that hardcore fans of the series are a tad excited to see The Transporter and Crank star throw down with Diesel, Johnson and possibly even fellow new addition Tony Jaa (the Ong-bak trilogy) in the film.

Johnson, with the aforementioned ‘Hobbs vs. Shaw’ image, also confirmed that the two characters will face off in the seventh Fast & Furious installment (a la Diesel and Johnson’s brawl in Fast Five). He added that “It was fun scrap (finally) w/ an actor with legit fighting skills who’s just a tad f*cking crazy… You guys will enjoy this fight.”

Back in October, Diesel posted a (mildly spoiler-ish) image on Facebook that (potentially) shows the aftermath of Hobbs’ fisticuffs with the Shaw brother in Fast & Furious 7 (check it out here). It could be that the showdown occurs relatively early in the film, so as to explain Johnson’s absence from a large chunk of the movie’s running time (i.e. since he was busy working on Hercules during the first month of production or so).

Fast & Furious 7 features the surviving players from Fast & Furious 6, in addition to the long-awaited return of Tokyo Drift star Lucas Black to the franchise. Meanwhile, the list of cast newcomers includes Oscar-nominee Djimon Hounsou (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Kurt Russell, featured in an introductory role that is mean to lay the groundwork for his character to slide into the big baddie role in Part 8 (or so Diesel has insinuated).

  1. This is truly the age of movie franchises, and I love it. I’ll watch every FF movie that comes out, so long as Vin and Paul continue doing them.

    • Couldn’t agree more. These FF movies are incredibly entertaining and deliver what the franchise’s fans want.

  2. I hope you are both being sarcastic..

    • Lol why would they be sarcastic? The fast and furious movies are highly entertaining. 5 & 6 were well received by critics too. They’re loads of fun, you should try watching them.

    • Ha – no, not being sarcastic. Consider it a guilty pleasure. I’m not looking for deep story lines with these films.

      • HUH?!? Why would they be being sarcastic? These movies are great. VERY entertaining. No reason to say it’s a “guilty pleasure” either buddy. Be proud you enjoy awesome movies.

  3. And with the FF series they keep getting better, FF6 was pretty damn awesome, just a fun thrill ride which is all the guys want to give us.

Who cares the runway is 15,000 miles long, lets hope Wan can keep it up (not familiar with his other work… not my thing)

    • I’d rather wanna see ronda rousey fighting them both and kicking their asses :)

  4. He may have been gone for the first month of production, but the Fast films take 4-5 months to film, so that means Dwayne has 3-4 months of stuff. So I don’t see how he’ll necessarily be substantially reduced.

  5. HOw we have fallen as a movie going audience….shame.

  6. I have a problem with them calling this movie FF7.

    jk

  7. The FF franchise is all that, and haters gonna keep on hating. Anyways, just give us the Hobbs from F5 and F7 will be off the chain!!! Universal already has their Justice League, and is call The Fast and The Furious !!! Yeah baby !!

  8. When I read the headline all I could think of: …is there any Statham movie where he doesn’t fight? o_O

Anyway, that shot of the Rock vs the Stath looks really awesome though… I’m team Stath all the way hahaha (I guess seeing the Rock a little too much has made me feel kinda bored with him)

  9. So that’s what they were doing this past weekend taking over downtown Atlanta. Its getting kinda weird to have so many things being filmed in GA the last few months.

  10. It’s a bit sad to see FF moving farther and farther away from being centered around racing. Tokyo Drift may have been a bad movie but it was fun as hell to see actual racing techniques being used.

But at the same time I’ve enjoyed the last two movies as popcorn action flicks so I guess I shouldn’t be complaining.

  11. bring back Johnny Tran already

  12. I haven’t enjoyed every installment of the franchise, but the last few films have been pretty entertaining. Fast and Furious is just one of those franchises that sates my appetite for over the top action.

  13. real life situation, who would u pick in a fight to the death?

  14. I feel sad of Paul’s dead. he was a good actor, an amazing people. I love his every single scenes in FF.I MISS HIM
