‘Fast and the Furious’ 6 & 7 Will Film Separately

Dwayne Johnson talks Fast and the Furious 6 Fast and the Furious 6 & 7 Will Film Separately

After the success (and general fun) of Fast Five, there’s been plenty of interest in what will come next for the Fast and the Furious franchise. It’s been previously stated that the fourth installment, Fast & Furious, was the beginning of a new story arc in the franchise – one that continued in Fast Five, and will carry on into Fast and the Furious 6.

The rumor mill has long whispered that the Fast and the Furious gang would next put pedal to the pavement in Europe – which was further evidenced by an after-credits sequence in Fast Five. The other part of that same batch of rumors had it that part 6 and part 7 would be shot back-to-back, likely bringing the story of rogue FBI agent Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker) and gearhead crook Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) to a close.

Well, we still don’t know a lot about what’s in store for Fast and the Furious 6 - but today we have a small update on some of the plans for the film, thanks to word from the latest (and greatest?) addition to the franchise: Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who plays fugitive manhunter, Luke Hobbs.

According to Johnson, Fast and the Furious 6 will NOT be shooting back-to-back with part 7:

“I don’t think we’re going to shoot them back-to-back. We were going to try that because it wouldn’t make sense to have the same crew and have everybody there in one place, but I think we’re dealing with some weather issues, so from what I know we’re going to shoot ‘Fast 6′ first and then worry about ‘Fast 7′ a little later.”

I think a lot of movie fans would agree, at this point: treating each installment of a movie franchise as its own project generally results in a higher quality film. As franchises like The Matrix or Pirates of the Caribbean have proven, the back-to-back approach to filmmaking does not often yield impressive results.

Before Johnson was done, he also lent further confirmation to the European setting:

“We’re going to be in the U.K., we’re going to be in Germany, from what I know. That’s the early talks, and we’re going to start shooting in May.”

To be clear: we know director Justin Lin and his cast have a plan for the next two chapters of the franchise, so Johnson’s mention of the UK and Germany could fit into that grand design, meaning we can’t say for certain that part 6 will include both. Time will tell.

The Fast and the Furious 6 is slated to begin production this May, for release on May 24th, 2013

    • My one and only question that concerns me is…WHO IS DOM GONNA BE WITH??? I mean he only started dating/talking or whatever to that girl from FF5 because he thought letty was dead, so now that she is alive who is he gonna be with ! Cant wait to find out

      • I think he’s gonna be with the girl hes with now because watch her probably end up being knocked up! That’s a good twist there!!

      • Letty of course

    • Here’s another twist. Everyone seems to assume FF3 must fall sometime after FF5 because Han is still alive. Presumably this will be the case with FF6, too, because Kang will reprise his role. However, having watched each movie, we can make the assumption that the timeline is totally flawed or Han must have faked his death.

Here is the reason: As the series progresses the producers mix new, sexy cars into each new film. By FF5, 2012 model year cars are commonly featured. But in FF3 there are many indicators that time has not progressed to 2012. Because the movie was shot many years earlier, we see no vehicles matching it’s supposed advanced time period. Certain areas of Tokyo used in the film have new construction or revamping nearly a decade later, when one would expect to see 2012 model year cars in Brazil. Han is also clearly older by FF5, not just because he’s aged, but because he’s more mature. He hardly seems the type that would be paling around with a bunch of high-schoolers in FF3 by the end of FF5. Finally at the end of FF3 Dom says Han used to run with him once, however, by the end of FF5 they’ve run together on at least 3 occasions, which would normally warrant a less specific reference (i.e. we ran together, we were old friends, etc).

Now I’m not saying that everyone is wrong and I’m right, but that the simple explanation that Han appears to die in FF3 is not solid enough to advance the idea that it falls after FF5 in the timeline. Maybe FF6 will clear that all up. But until then, enjoy my rant!

  1. After the 4th movie i guess thats when Han goes off to tokyo n the Tokyo Drift thing happens before Fast five. Cuz in d 4th movie Dom tells Han to go away and thats when Han talks bout Tokyo n crazy s*** hapening ther. Maybe Han faked his death in tokyo. Well thats what i feel…

    • this is awsome

    • NO tokyo drift did not happen before fast five. fast five is like a reflect back to when han and vin was rolling together at the end of fast five they all split and han went to tokyo that why at the end of tokyo drift where shawn and vin was gona race shawn said he didnt know han likes muscle cars too and vin reply back saying he did when he was still rolling with him. so yup

    • but in the fifth, he was in the car with the Gisele at the end, and she like i thought you wanted to go to Japan and Han said ‘we will get there’

      • NO she said “I thought you wanted to go to Tokyo”? And Han says “We’ll get there soon enough”

  2. @everyone: Fast and the Furious 6 & 7 are like a finale. There won’t be any more after that. It’s the last 2 FF films. I want F6 and F7 to have few things and expectations. I want Leon from F1 to return, we never heard from him after the first film, he and letty escaped. I want Hobbs to team up with them once again. I want to see a fight between the Rock and Steve Austin and a girl fight between the women in the film and Brian winning car fights and Diesel facing off against the main antagonist. Btw Germans are fast racers. They got the fastest cars in the world. Now that’s a threat to Dom’s team.

    • thats rubbish germans dont make the fastest cars its the italians and the british the germans are putting the engine in the boot which gives them power but a floppy gear box and you would need a good gearbox like the one in the aston martin db7 and you would need a good engine like the lamborghini aventador i bet if the people from aston martin and the people from lamborghini teamed up they would make one awsome car

      • Sorry bro but the Germans own Lamborghini (nearly 10 years now) so the Gallarado,Murcielago, and the new beast Aventador were all under German ownership Volkswagen.

  3. cant wait huge fan go Mia! and go o’conner

  4. i think that they should just keep doing there thing with these movies lets face the facts hear guy these movies are way freaking better then twilight am i wrong? i just want to no is there going to be a fast 7 after this one coming up

  5. Some sex and intense car chase scenes

  6. From what i read Han IS going to be in Fast and Furious 6 so i don’t think he faked his death – i think that after fast and furious 6 (and maybe even 7)Tokyo Drift Future tense was meant to start around there so Han would be dead after fast and furious 6/7. Also from my source i read the whole team might be in the film – Han, Roman, Tej, Leo, Santos, Gisele and of course the main actors; Dom, Brian and Mia. Also some one called “Slick” said because Mia is pregnant she can’t drive – doesn’t mean she can’t be in the movie and who knows maybe the baby is born in the beginning of Fast and Furious that she might be able to in the end. And Letty is definitely going to be in Fast and Furious 6 because we have to see the story slowly unravel

  7. And this movie is miles better than Twilight. Twilight is a typical movie and is tacky anyway – one look at the trailer you have the whole movie. The only good thing about Twilight is that Jacob is hot. That’s it.

    • I love Twilight and Fast and Furious but Fast and Furious is by far way better. ND um the “Be Fast Be Furious chick” Twilight is not tacky at all. The last two BD part1 and BD part2 are the best ones I think.

  8. BRING ON FAST 6,7,8,9, I will buy them all!!!!!!!!!!!! Most sequels in movie history bring it on!!!

  9. As much as i would hate to say it i am not sure there is going to be a 8 or 9. I think seven would be the last one. But i am so glad they are filming 6 in Glasgow – the closer paul walker is to me the better

  10. Is there going to a part 8 and 9

  11. No, i don’t think so.

  12. Tokyo Drift is ment to be after number 6 because in the trailer for number 7 dom goes to tokyo in the same scene tokyo drift ends on..

    • There is no FF7 trailer. The film is in production. The FF6 teaser was just released this past Sunday. If you saw it on youtube, it was probably a good fan-made fake.

  13. I want them to make Fast & Furious 8 and Fast & Furious 9, because them are my favorite movies and continue making more of them.

    • I agree with you they should never stop making them ever EVER!!!!!!!!!!

  14. Han more likely escaped the burning car then faked his death because his days in Tokyo are over. You don’t want to be caught by the Yakuza. As for Dom racing all over Asia? He was still on the run from the law. IMO FF4 happened before FF3 followed by FF5. It would of been less confusing if Han had some scars or burnt skin of some sort in FF5. Let’s not forget Han was a character in a 2002 movie called “Better Luck Tomorrow” directed by Justin Lin based in California in 1992.

  15. 1 month and 18 days until fast and furious officially comes out in britain!

  16. Fast and the forious are by far the best thing that has same out on dvd and tv I just want to thank all the screen wriyers and all the acctors for making them

  17. Can’t wait till this movie came out coz it ganna be DARTY

  18. Yo

  19. Saw Fast and Furious 6 and it was freaking great. Best one yet. A great story and plot and the cars were good. Everyone MUST go see this. It runs right off the other movie as the others do but 2hrs long they go in depth and race on. Not really like the teenage one The fast and the Furious but this is more of an adult movie now for us people that grew up with it. Every enjoy 6 as much as i did :)

  20. I’m going to miss Han as much as you guys. It’s a shame but watching Toyko Drift totally explains why he’s such a free spirit.

  21. Fast & Furious are thee best series of movies since the James Bond series. I watched part 6 last night and oh my was I ever impressed, they just keep getting better with each installment. Oh please don’t stop making more. In all honesty the best thing I like about these movies is they’ve kept the same actors, that to me is what keeps your audience coming back. I lose interest fast when you change the originals. It’s great all of these have stayed on board. And adding Dwayne Johnson topped it off. I love these movies, cannot wait for 7.

  22. Young wheezy and beau are both wrong. She says “I thought you wanted to go to Tokyo?” And he says. We’ll get there, eventually.”
