Dominic Toretto's family is back in action in Fast X, and it cost quite a lot to make their newest adventure happen. In Fast X, Dom (Vin Diesel) and co. find themselves confronted by a new enemy named Dante Reyes (Jason Momoa), who seeks revenge on the group for a grudge stemming from their Rio de Janeiro heist in Fast Five. With the group's old enemy Cipher (Charlize Theron) also in the mix, Dom and his family with face one of their most harrowing battles ever.

As the 10th installment of the Fast Saga, Fast X brings with it the franchise's ever-increasing scale of action and stunts, both of which have grown more blatantly absurd than ever (which is very much part of the Fast Saga's brand.) To bring Fast X's huge ensemble cast together and realize its dynamic action sequences, Fast X also is anything but a cheap movie. Here is the budget of Fast X, and what the movie needs to make to be a box office success.

Fast X Has A Massive Budget Of $340 Million

Fast X carries a gargantuan budget of $340 million, which exemplifies just how far the series has come in terms of both scope and popularity. For comparison, the first entry of the series, 2001's The Fast and the Furious, cost just $38 million. Indeed, perhaps even more staggering is the fact that Fast X cost $140 million more than F9. All told, Fast X is not only the most expensive Fast & Furious movie, but one of the most expensive movies ever made.

The budget of Fast X can be partially attributed both to the magnitude of the growing cast of Fast X and the pay raises of its regular cast over the course of the series. Additionally, the departure of original director Justin Lin and the hiring of incoming director Louis Leterrier is also likely a contributing factor to Fast X's huge budget, as is the much bigger scale action sequences of the film. With a $340 million price tag, Fast X 's threshold for box office success is much higher.

Fast X Needs To Make At Least $850 Million At The Box Office

With the general rule that a movie needs to earn roughly 2.5 times its budget to be declared a success, Fast X will need to make a minimum of $850 million in order to hit that benchmark. While that is a high bar to clear, Fast X has the advantage of the Fast Saga's immense commercial popularity on its side. 2011's Fast Five launched the franchise to become a major tentpole action series, with its box office totals climbing to the point of Furious 7 and The Fate of the Furious both clearing $1 billion worldwide.

The 2019 spin-off Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw was admittedly a bit of a comedown, but still earned $760 million, while 2021's F9 pulled in $726 million right when movie theaters were finally beginning to emerge from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Obviously, Fast X needs to reverse that downward streak with a total closer to that of Furious 7 and The Fate of the Furious in order for it to be a success. Nonetheless, with the Fast Saga being one of the biggest action movie series around and a genuine draw during the summer movie season, Fast X has a very good shot of reaching the heights of success it needs to.
