Actress Farrah Fawcett passed away today at the age of 62. Fawcett had long battled cancer – a fight which ended around 9:30 a.m. this morning in a Santa Monica hospital.

Fawcett will best be remembered for Charlie’s Angels, a role which transformed her into one of the hottest sex symbols of the 70s. She went on to have a long career (predominantly in television), earning nominations for multiple Emmys and Golden Globes.
According to spokesman Paul Bloch, Fawcett’s last moments were spent with her longtime companion Ryan O’Neal and close friend Alana Stewart. Said O’Neal:
“After a long and brave battle with cancer, our beloved Farrah has passed away…Although this is an extremely difficult time for her family and friends, we take comfort in the beautiful times that we shared with Farrah over the years and the knowledge that her life brought joy to so many people around the world.”
Fawcett was diagnosed with cancer in 2006, a devastating turn that brought her and O’Neal (father of Fawcett’s 24-year-old son Redmond) back together. The two had even planned to wed. Fawcett’s brave fight against cancer (and all the inappropriate media scrutiny) was recorded in the documentary “Farrah’s Story”, which aired on NBC this past May.
Said Stewart:
“Her big message to people is don’t give up, no matter what they say to you, keep fighting,”

Wow! what a bummer. She was the fantasy of so many young men of my generation. Truly an icon.
I heard about her being near death on the way to work this morning. Now she’s with the real angels. RIP, Farrah.
