    Then I guess it will have to be on DVD that we truly get Spike's original cut, however I will still see this film just to support any work from Spike and of my connection to the story from childhood.
    My only problem is how long would it be until Spike's version is put out on dvd. Take for instance the Director's Cut of Payback. I enjoyed both versions, but after seeing the first cut, that was far superior.

    It's not a dark tale. I read it to my son with vigor at least once a week. It's his favorite. It's fun to loudly stomp through the forest and swing from the trees and dance in the moonlight with the wild things, knowing that all along you can go home, you are safe, and you are loved no matter what. I can't imagine it fluffed up to 2 hours without spoiling it. What does Mr. Sendak have to say?

    I find myself in the unusual position of being the "old grump" about this movie. I should say I haven't seen Jonzes' other movies, so maybe I should just shut up - but where's the fun in that!

    It's a pretty brief (if I remember correctly) story that my kids enjoyed - but they enjoyed lots of books. Should we therefore make a full length movie of "Goodnight Moon" as well?

    I'm just having tough time getting up any enthusiasm for this. I thought the original teaser trailer for "Polar Express" looked like a beautiful translation of THAT Caldecot Medal-winning book, and look how they padded the dickens out of that.

    Sorry for the negativity, maybe I just need my prune juice.

    I remember that story. It was very dark and enjoyable even as a kid.

    Love the poster and the look. Had no idea this existed but would love to see it now.
    If it keeps that dark edge. Maybe there will be a director's cut.

    I suspect there's been an overeaction to the kids' crying in the test screenings. Without giving things away, I can't imagine kids not loving this by the end.

    @Gary...

    I wouldn't worry about Spike messing it up, but it looks like the studio will.

    That being said, the poster is really cool.
