Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them 2 has added actor David Sakurai to its cast, in the role of a villain. The first Fantastic Beasts movie introduced Eddie Redmayne as young wizard Newt Scamander, before eventually revealing that Johnny Depp is playing the role of the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald in the Wizarding World. The villainous wizard (who spent most of the first Fantastic Beasts film masquerading as Auror Percival Graves) was apprehended at the end of the movie, but he will be back on the loose in the sequel and building an army of followers to do his bidding.

The Fantastic Beasts sequel is currently filming in England with a stellar cast that includes returnees like Redmayne, Depp, Dan Fogler (Jacob Kowalski) and Katherine Waterson (Tina Goldstein), as well as new faces like Jude Law as the young Albus Dumbledore.

As filming continues on the Fantastic Beasts sequel, it seems that Grindelwald's army has recruited another yet wizard to its cause. Deadline has revealed that actor Sakurai has joined the cast of the still-untitled sequel in the role of Krall, one of Grindelwald's followers.

Since the Fantastic Beasts franchise isn't based on existing books like the Harry Potter films were, fans have no experience with Krall (or any of the new characters J.K. Rowling is introducing as screenwriter). Deadline describes him as an "ambitious and sulky henchmen", suggesting he will probably run afoul of his master Grindelwald at some point; whether he survives the inevitable punishment for such a mistake, remains to be seen.

We don't know much about Krall yet, but Sakurai is an accomplished performer, writer and director. The 38-year-old has done most of his work in his native Denmark. His most visible role to date in North America was on an episode of Iron Fist, "Immortal Emerges From Cave", in which he appeared as the villain Scythe. Sakurai brought both menace and charm to the role of Scythe, a killer happy to taunt his victims or even serenade them with karaoke before finishing them off. The role allowed Sakurai to use some of his own martial arts ability (he's proficient in a number of styles, including Muay Thai). His next appearance will be in Stoic, starring Antonio Banderas and Karl Urban.

Sakurai is a great addition to the film's already diverse cast, and it will be interesting to see what he does with the role of a dark wizard. Hopefully the film will make use of Sakurai's talents by allowing him to showcase some of his martial arts skills; the combination of magical abilities and hand-to-hand combat would certainly be an interesting one that we haven't yet seen in any of the Wizarding World films.
