Following the release of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the world has gone mad yet again for British author - and first-time screenwriter - J.K. Rowling and her wildly original Wizarding World already familiar to moviegoers by way of the Harry Potter franchise; as directed by frequent collaborater David Yates. The first in a planned five-movie series, the first Fantastic Beasts movie has delighted fans and general viewers around the world, and already surpassed $170 million internationally at the box office.

All that being said, the conclusion to the first adventure with Magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) has now concluded, with subsequent installments slated to focus on other characters - with the overall focus being on the notorious dark wizard Gellert Grindlewald. Another major player confirmed to appear in the Fantastic Beasts sequel is a younger Albus Dumbledore and actors have already begun expressing interest in filling that role.

Speaking to Digital Spy, the Doctor Who alum Arthur Darvill revealed that he would like to take a swing at playing Dumbledore in future Fantastic Beasts films, and further expressed his intent overall to play more 'wizards' as he gets older. During a discussion of his work on the stage musical version of Roald Dahl's Fantastic Mr. Fox, Darvill touched on his desire to play Dumbledore:

"Absolutely, [I'm up for it]. D'you know what? I've made this pact with myself that when I hit a certain age, I'm only going to play wizards. I want to be that guy. So whether it's 10 years down the line or...when I can grow a salt and pepper beard, I would be totally happy just playing wizards for the rest of my life. But yeah, if they came knocking saying, 'We really want you to play the young Dumbledore,' I'd definitely consider it!"

Fans of Doctor Who know Darvill best for his multi-season role as Rory Williams, but the rest of the general public might know him better for his more recent turn on Legends of Tomorrow as Rip Hunter. Whether or not Darvill would prove up to snuff as a young Dumbledore in the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them series is a question that may or may not ever be answered - though his enthusiasm for the role certainly doesn't hurt his chances at getting to try.

Only time will tell what direction Rowling and Yates will take as their Fantastic Beasts saga continues to take shape over the course of the years ahead, but the role of young Albus Dumbledore will no doubt be given careful consideration. Based on the character's overarching importance in the Wizarding World, Dumbledore's role in the Fantastic Beasts series is sure to be an integral one - and the actor who plays him will have some fairly large shoes to fill.
