2008 fall tv season schedule 2008 Fall TV Schedule Preview

The new 2008 Fall TV season is almost upon us, with the first new show of the season premiering on September 1st. Screen Rant has put together an extensive list of new and returning programs along with their premiere dates, along with descriptions and recommendations.

So what’s up this fall? What are we anticipating, what are we, well… not anticipating?

I know some of you have given up on network television. At times I don’t blame you. For those of you who still have a wee bit of faith, anticipation, or hope in network programming – or even plan on patiently waiting for shows to hit DVD, then this endeavor is for you. I gave a brief overview of the upcoming TV season a couple of months ago, but this right here is the big kahuna.

And yes, even I am looking forward to a few TV series…

Maybe I’ll stop my “rant” and get going. What you’ll see below is:

  • The name of the series, along with which season it will be for the show
  • A brief description
  • An opinion or two
  • The premiere date

Below the primary alphabetical listing section, I’ve also ordered the shows by date in case you have plans that you have to alter for your favorite TV show. We give season premiere dates, summaries and recommendations on everything from highly anticipated shows like Heroes, Smallville and The Sarah Connor Chronicles to new shows like Dollhouse, Fringe and My Own Worst Enemy.

If you want to skip right over to a favorite show, click on one of these links:

Crusoe, CSI, Damages, Dexter, Dollhouse, Eleventh Hour and Fringe

Ghost Whisperer, Heroes, House, Knight Rider, Law and Order, Life on Mars, Lost and My Own Worst Enemy

NCIS, Numb3rs, Prison Break, Pushing Daisies, Raising the Bar, Sanctuary, Smallville and Sons of Anarchy

Supernatural, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, The Mentalist, The Shield, True Blood, The Unit, Valentine Inc. and Without A Trace

Bruce says: Let’s get on with it!

24 on Fox (Season 7)

After a year long delay, season 7 of 24 kicks it into gear -
Starting on Mondays, in January 2009.

Bruce says: Don’t miss it! (Everyone, you have to read this with that gravely voice the movie voice over dude has! It makes it better!!)”

On November 23, 2008, 24: Exile will air on Fox as a prequel to the seventh season, bridging the gap between the seasons.

Battlestar Galactica on Sci-Fi (Season 4.5)

2008season bsg 2008 Fall TV Schedule PreviewIn one devastating day, billions of human lives were consumed by nuclear fires and a very lucky few, less then 50,000, were fortunate to escape aboard a band of refugee starships and flee from the Cylone attack into deep space, led by the sole surviving Colonial warship, the battlestar Galactica. In the final season, they have found Earth, and it ain’t all it’s cracked up to be.

Bruce says: OK, if you don’t know what I think about the show by now, what cave have you been in? For the new folk: I am really looking forward to the final part of season 4, regardless of how crappy the Sci-Fi Channel is handling it.

Starts in February of 2009, as leaked by Jamie Bamber back in late 2007!

Bones on Fox (Season 4)

A scientist who reads clues left behind in bones’ to solve cases teams up with an FBI Special Agent who mistrusts science and believes evidence should come from the living. (X-Files??)
It stars Emily Deschanel, David Boreanaz and Michaela Conlin.

Bruce says: Actually I hear that if you’re a Boreanaz fan, you’d be happy. I’ve enjoyed all the commercials I’ve seen for it! I just haven’t had the time to watch it.

Premieres Wednesday, September 3rd.

Chuck on NBC (Season 2)

2008season chuck 2008 Fall TV Schedule Preview From executive producer Josh Schwartz and executive producer-director McG.
When Chuck opens an e-mail subliminally encoded with government secrets, he unwittingly downloads an entire server of sensitive data into his brain. Now, the fate of the world lies in the unlikely hands of a guy who works at a Buy More Electronics store. Instead of fighting computer viruses, he confronts assassins and international terrorists.

Bruce says: Catchy, quirky and an ongoing sense of developing characters. If you’re not careful, you could get hooked.

Premieres Monday, September 29th.

Cold Case on CBS (Season 6)

A drama about Lilly Rush (Played by Kathryn Morris), a dedicated female detective in the Philadelphia homicide squad, who finds her niche when she’s assigned to “cold cases”–crimes that have never been solved.

Bruce says: I really enjoy how they look at older cases, and how it’s portrayed in the screen. Flash backs to familiar era’s, then snapping back to the older characters in present day is done well. This one is a Bruce Fave.

Premieres Sunday, September 28th.

Cops on FOX (Season 21)

Bad Boys, Bad Boys, Whatcha gonna dooo? Whatcha gonna do when they come for you? (I hope you read that with the tune going off in your head!) And they’ve been coming for them for 21 seasons. Sheesh!

Bruce says: It’s a classic. When nothing else is on, I like tuning in to hear the excuses the half neked criminal ilk come up with. It’s almost a game!

Premieres Saturday, September 6th.

Criminal Minds on CBS (Season 4)

The BAU (Behavioral Analysis Unit) is an elite team of FBI profilers who analyze the country’s most twisted criminal minds, anticipating their next moves before they strike again.

Bruce says: That’s TWISTED CRIMINAL MINDS. Not my mind. I really liked this show when Mandy Patinkin was on it. They’ve done OK with his replacement, Joe Mantegna and they took a different and interesting approach to showing the story in season three. This is still a Bruce Fave, even without Patinkin.

Premieres Wednesday, September 24th.

  1. Fan of Criminal Minds.
I agree they have lost something since patinkin left

  2. I’m a fan of Criminal Minds. And I was glad that Mandy Patinkin left. He did not do anything imo. And the new actor’s name that replaced him is JOE MANTEGNA! GET THE SPELLING RIGHT! SHEESH.

  3. Looking forward to Fringe!

Didn’t know John Noble was going to be in there, very interresting…

    Nice long preview!

  4. Zoinks Libb. Dang dvorak keyboard messed me up again!! I’ve been a pseudo fan of MANTEGNA fan since Joan of Arcadia.

Thanks for the gentle correction Libb.

  5. You MUST tune into ‘Dexter’. No more ignoring your friends lol You will not be disappointed. As for ‘Bones’, I’m a huge David Boreanaz fan, and have been for a very long time and I can’t stand ‘Bones’. The first two seasons were the best, imo. Now, it’s seriously lacking.

I’m looking forward to Fringe, Terminator, Supernatural, House, Heroes, Smallville(I still watch for Tom Welling and Allison Mack), Pushing Daisies, and Dollhouse. Thanks for all the previews :)

  6. What about My Name is Earl?!

  7. Sigh:

My Name is Earl on NBC (Season 4)
    One-hour Season Premiere!

A funny show about a man who wins a lottery, and promptly gets run over while realizing his good fortune!! After an epiphany, he is determined to transform his good fortune into a life-changing event as he sets out to right all the wrongs from his past.

I really enjoy Earl. I caught the first couple of seasons, but it took a back seat to some other shows last season that stepped up and got in it’s way for me.

It’s funny as all get out from what I remember, and it’s going strong to rate itself a 4th season!

  8. Definitely looking forward to the next season of The Unit.

But WTF is up with Knight Rider?? Did they really need to rice up a Mustang just to piss off non-ricers or do they actually think that will unite the two groups or some hippy thinking like that??

I mean, useless body kits, weird flashy bulby things sticking out of the hood, big ridiculous wing, and… neon lights… under the car… Seriously… Are you serious… Wouldn’t they focus on making mods to the car that are actually useful and not from the latest Tuner catalog? I can’t see the back, does it have a big fart can muffler too?

They should have just kept the GT500KR Mustang stock looking, but have tons of cool gadgets hidden away. That would have been pretty bad ass.

  9. Nice work Bruce,,,
Yeah My Name is Earl is WAY better than the Office.
The shows I’m really looking forward to are Prison Break and 24,,, I noticed you didn’t cover 24 I’m guessing cause it comes out next year. But the prequel comes out in November. !!! 8-)

Sarah Connor Chronicles, is fun to watch like a car wreak you can’t avoid.
I don’t see Knight Rider lasting more than a season.
How they can green light that garbage, and cancel Journey Man is beyond common sense.
But remember its NBC, home of the lame. (Except Conan O Brian of course)
I don’t have cable so I’ll have to wait for the BSG season 4 dvds !!! ;-)

  10. Thanks 790. There’s lots of shows out there!!

OK, here we go but as a filler until a possible later full post:

    24 on Fox ( Season 7 )
After a year long delay, season 7 of 24 kicks it into gear -
Starting on Mondays, in January 2009.

On November 23, of 2008, 24: Exile will air on Fox as a prequel to the seventh season, bridging the gap between the seasons.

Don’t miss it! (Everyone, you have to read this with that gravely voice the movie voice over dude has! It makes it better!!)

  11. shows ill be downloading this fall season:
    prison break (sept 1)
    entourage (sept 7)
    terminator (sept 8)
    smallville (sept 18)
the big bang theory (sept 22)
    heroes (sept 22)
    the office (sept 25)
    ugly betty (sept 25)

  12. I really enjoy several shows on NBC: Chuck, Law and Order SVU and Life. Bruce, Life is a great show, one that really surprised me when I stuck with it last year. It sucks that NBC is mucking it up by moving it to my SciFi Friday nights, so unless it’s up against a rerun of Atlantis or Dr. Who, I will be on SciFi….

Oh, and I am psyched that we’ll be getting a whole season of “24″! WOOHOO!

Oh, and BTW, when does the Simpsons and Family Guy premiere? IMO, 2 of the best written shows on TV.

  13. Hey Andy,

If you’re lucky, (or not), this is the last season of Atlantis, http://screenrant.com/stargate-atlantis-final-season-brusimm-3482/

And I just happen to have my first draft of shows that I peeled out of the material I posted, so here’s the info you asked for:

The Simpsons on FOX, starting it’s 20th season. Sunday, September 28th

20 Seasons of radioactive donuts!! Totally cool man!!

Family Guy (FOX) — season 7 Sunday, September 28th

    I never caught this one.

And gang, keep an eye out. I have a “24″ post coming at ya soon!

  14. Don’t forget PRISON BREAK fans!! 2 hour premere this MONDAY !! ;-)

Everyone else, you have 2 days to watch the first 3 seasons on dvd.
    And Go !!!

  15. Bruce Simmons said “20 Seasons of radioactive donuts!! Totally cool man!!”

Yeah, before they end this show they should do a story about where 20 years of vialed Nuclear waste went, that Homer keeps throwing out his car window. Whoops, did I give something away??

  16. Old Man,,, The Simpsons will never end, it will one day morph into a religion as the survivors of the nuclear fire watch old dvds.

Tracy Ulman gets nothing!!!!!! (Shutltz accent)
    Nothing !!!

    I must go now!!!

  17. WOOHOO!!!

    Thanks Bruce!!!

  18. I still cant get over the fact that the Knight Rider ads say Knight Rider THE SERIES .
    It was ALWAYS a series!
It is cool however to hear the voice of Val Kilmer in the ads as the voice of Kitt.

  19. Gary, (IMO) Knight Rider the Entire Series, (who cares) , will be a 3 disc set.

This show has a big budget if it dosnt pull in heavy numbers within the first season I’m betting it will be canceled and then mocked on Screen Rant endlessly for sport, 8-)
    Yes I will be there!

  20. Gang, since you’ve been asking for and about other shows, I’m going to put a few more out here.

I must warn you. What I’m putting out here is so NOT Screen Rant related that that I had to prepare you for the shock.

I’m havin’ nightmares about it because I know next year, I’ll be doin’ it again!

  28. Bruce,
Perhaps in the next year a couple of the networks will die cutting your work in half!

  29. Huh? There’s a bright side to everything?
