Ok, call me a softy, wimp, whatever, but this show gets to me every single week. Heck, this week it put a lump in my throat in the first five minutes… usually that doesn’t happen until the end of the show.
If you’re not familiar with the premise, on each episode the crew (including the ever-popular Ty Pennington from Trading Spaces) visits a family that has either submitted a request, or has had someone else submit a request for them, to have their home completely made over.
What happens is that with a construction/design crew of over 100 people, the house is completely gutted and updated depending upon the needs of the family. This usually includes state of the art appliances and plasma TVs, which are not necessarily needs, but once you’ve heard the family’s story you won’t begrudge them these things.
When I started watching the show I thought it would be great to have my house done. However, as the weeks go by, I’m thankful that I’m not on the show, as the families that appear have had life hand them some serious hardships. We’re talking paralysis, death in the family, etc.
Yes, this stuff happens to other people, but it does my heart good to see families who have fallen on tough times have something that is equivalent to a gift from God bestowed on them. The appreciation in the faces of these people is truly something to behold.
The flip side of the coin is that I cannot imagine the designers who are regulars on this show walking away without being changed forever.
Definitely worth watching. I recommend it highly.

Yeah, this show and Mark Burnett’s proposal for the reality show about missing kids are examples of what reality TV should be.
I’m not Ty Pennington’s biggest fan by any stretch of the imagination, but I applaud his efforts.

Extreme makeover is my favorite show and i always wondered if it was real, until i got to be part of it and i thank god that it happened to my family and it aired oct 3 2004. It was a hit!!!

i think these shows are great.they help people when they need help the most.i like the ones where people’s body’s get reshaped although i prefer working out,but sometimes a little help is needed.i had a baby a year and six months ago.i’ve been exersizing a lot and managed to loose a lot of weight but now my body looks like im 80 years old.i mean my boobs are huge my back ackes and they sag you can imagine how long they sag,my tummy has a lot of excess skin.i wouldn’t mind that kind of help at all.i wish the was a show like that here in south africa and i there is sign me up now.you can contact me at otsile16@yahoo.com.:blush: :blush: :blush:

I know there is an application process to your show, but there is a family in my town whose son has 2nd degree burns on his body and legs, the house is uninhabitable, and his parents have been living in a hotel.He was put into a medically induced coma, and needs surgery to his achilles. This family only speaks Polish so there is a language barrier. They need help and I have faith that you can help them, please let me know what we can do to help them, they really need it.
Ty does an awsome job at what he does in stand out way.

I need help right now. Who know’s where im going to be in the future. My mom and I have been struggling through everything for almost 4 years. My mom’s a hard working person, but got married to a con artist/acoholic. We found that out after we moved in with him. About 3 times he kicked us out of the place that he would call “our” house. One night it was -7 deegres outside. He kicked us out.. with my older sister brittany, my mom, two dogs and myself. All i could remember is mom telling us, theres no place to go. Crying all night then going to school in the morning, crying there as well. Lifes not supost to be this hard. This is one story, out of many. Right now, we are homeless. We’re living with my moms friend but were trying to find a home right now. Please help us find a house that we can call “our” home. All i want is my mom to be happy, and it kills me everytime i see her because more than half the time i see her, shes crying.

I would like to know if anyone has Ty’s email because we need a makeover a.s.a.p! I have no printer so I can’t print out the application. But my family’s story is I have 2 boys one is 3 and the other is 1 and we live in a house with my husband’s grandmother and this house is falling apart at the seams. I have to worry about my children 24/7 because this house is falling apart so bad there is so many bugs that come in here. The worst type of bug that does is brown recluse spiders & wolf spiders. I’m so afraid that one of them are going to get bit and not live through it.I’m afraid of losing my kids and that scares me I don’t know what I would do if I lost them. Also my husband’s grandmother built on half of this trailor and she has been supporting us for years because it’s hard to find a job right now in Florida for my husband. I feel terrible for letting his grandmother support all of us for so long. I’ve tried to look for at home work but that’s impossible because you don’t know which ones are fake and you have to pay first hand. We also have lots of holes in this house to. During the winter I have to bundle up my kids at night just so they can sleep because the only heat we have is little box heaters that don’t do much of anything. I would love do to this for my husband’s grandmother to show that we all appreciate her for supporting us. And my mother in law owns the property and has been wanting to tear this thing down but when the economy went down she couldn’t afford it.
