‘Expendables 3′: Production May Begin This Fall; Chan, Snipes and Cage Wanted

It’s safe to say that The Expendables 3 is happening, but who’s joining Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger and the rest of their gang for another round of self-aware ultra-masculine action fantasy? Jackie Chan might be getting in on the fun, so long as he approves of Sly’s script; furthermore, the rumors about Nicolas Cage and Wesley Snipes boarding the Expendables train – once the latter is released from prison – continue to circulate.

Expendables staple Dolph Lundgren lends further credibility to that speculation in a new interview, where he suggests the third movie could begin shooting as soon as this September. That would set it on-course for a Summer 2014 release and keep the franchise on schedule (e.g. one new installment arriving every two years).

Ludgren informed Movieweb that he doesn’t expect Expendables 3 to be ready for production until this fall, not long after he finishes working on the TV series Rescue 3. He also discussed how Sly welcomes input from his fellow muscle-bound screen heroes, which in part accounts for why the butt-kicking icons Chuck Norris and Jean-Claude Van Damme eventually agreed to get in on the fun in Expendables 2. (Besides the chance for one last hurrah before fading in the sunset, that is.)

“I let [Sly] go at [the screenplay] first. He kind of knows me creatively, and personally, because we’ve worked together quite a bit. So I will usually read the script, and then I will add a few comments about this or that. He knows all of the actors that are in the piece, and there are so many characters involved. They all want to be involved, and everyone wants to have a little something special to do. So, he tries to satisfy that. He’s done a great job so far. And I trust him. I usually add a few comments, and he is open to that. Yeah, if everything works out…All these other variables…Then I am not that worried about the script, really.”

There’s been talk about old-timers like Steven Seagal, Harrison Ford and Clint Eastwood coming aboard to make an appearance in Expendables 3, but the more consistently-whispered names so far have, indeed, been Cage, Chan and Snipes. Lundgren confirms as much, though he admits to being clueless when it comes to how likely any of those names are (or how interested, in the case of Cage and Snipes).

“I don’t know anything for sure. I know…I have heard that they do want Wesley Snipes. They want Jackie Chan. Nicolas Cage, I have heard too. But we don’t know want is going on just yet. All of those are pretty great names. They are good actors, and I think the fans would love to see them in there, with the rest of us, for sure. Yeah.”

Admittedly, Cage and Snipes have financial motivation to agree to Expendables 3, but that doesn’t guarantee their commitment either. Lastly, in terms of director: Expendables 2 helmer Simon West has been associated with the third installment so far, enough as to suggest he’s essentially set to return. However, if he doesn’t, John Woo wouldn’t mind taking the job (or so we’ve heard) …

  1. Oh Yeaaaahhhh! Love the movies for the sheer entertainment they bring.

  2. Yes!!! This movie will be perfect for celebrating the 100 years of Chan! Can’t wait!!!

  3. I would LOVE it if JC got in on it! and in a big role would be awesome!!! Fingers and toes crossed!

    • This and John Woo would be awesome !!! Hell Yes !!!!

    • No, Draagyn, let’s leave Jesus Christ out of this ok? ;) Sorry, I live in the Bible Belt, so when I saw “JC” and I just couldn’t resist.

  4. I still want Li’s exit from the second movie to lead into a spin-off film involving a ton of Asian action stars. Like a Chinese version of The Expendables.

And because Expendables had Swedish, Austrian, British, and Belgium actors in it. We can include Japanese, Korean, and other nations in this one. As long as they all kick ass.

    • Tony Jaa perhaps?

      *prays for it to happen*

      • That’s an awesome idea, I’d rather see that!!

Chow Yun Fat, Tony Leung, Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Bolo Yeung, Sammo Hung, Donnie Yen the list is endless!

        • Plus Li’s own directorial efforts have been amazing so yeah, lets have it please.

  5. NO! not cage!!! lame actor. IMO

  6. i feel the next one should have some of the characters to be killed. the problem i have with the 2nd movie the new character Billy the Kid was a real throw away character.

  7. I think Kurt Russell should be added to the list. And maybe even his eye patch. And if Cage is involved, he should be the villain and go all nutzo with the crazy eyes like he did in Face/off. Plus, then fans get to see Cage get killed.

    • I like your thinking. Seeing Cage die violently is always good.

  8. I want an expendables movie where Nicolas Cage is playing every part

    • The Uncageables!!

‘Sorry Daddio, this birds coming home to roost!’

      • @Dr Kenneth

Whats wrong with you? Are you ok my friend?

        That scared me…The Uncageables???

  9. Wesley Snipes should be the main villain

    • @Jeff Haha it scared me to!

Nicolas Cage playing every part in a movie, that’s bat s*** insane!!

He could eat a peach for hours mind you!

  10. This sounds real good to me. I really hope they make a whole bunch of these movies, they are so entertaining and fun. Another good addition would be the Rock for a cameo or even Mel Gibson as the main bad guy IMO.

  11. I want Mr. T and Carl Weathers in this.

    • Sr, you are 100% right Carl Weather should be there

      • Carl Weathers absolutly, but he’s got to be in shape. Mr. T?? Is he still alive??

  12. Dont forget Michael Dudikoff!

    • Second That :)

      • American Ninja, MUTHAF***AS!!!

  13. If this may be the last one, lets go all out.

Chan, Ford, Eastwood, Cage, Snipes, Seagal.

Then we throw in The Rock, Kurt Russell and Michael Jai White.

    • dont forget Mel Gibson and Willem Dafoe. shoot why not bring in Liam Neeson to play a bad guy. that would be entertaining to watch. all three of which are great actors

  14. I was for sure that this would be the last one. But from what I understand, Sly will continue to make The Expendables movies as long as people r watching. Meaning the possibilities of more installments beyond a 3rd. As long as they keep a sense of realism & not over the top incredibly unrealistic stunts like in xXx where none were believable & just comical. I would like to c more hand to hand combat with these guys. Keep makin these movies cause I wanna c so many other guys in these movies that 3 of wouldn’t be enough. Maybe 5 or 6 installments with guys like Bolo Yeung, Steven Segal, John Travolta, Kurt Russell, Dwayne Johnson, Vin Diesel, Hulk Hogan, Mr. T, Carl Weathers, Cung Le, Michael Biehn, Peter Weller, Jackie Chan, Bill Goldberg, Lou Ferrigno (would be a fun one & he’s still huge)

  15. get rid of randy and terry b/c they add nothing and are just a wate of screen time. getting rid of them gives the others as well as the villains enough screen time to be further developed.

i would love to see snipes and seagal as corrupt CIA agents working with the triads (in comes chan and donnie yen as father son triad dragon heads). it will be ironic since they usually play the good guys going after the corrupt ones :P

they could tie the triad thing in with maggie (asian actresses character) with her being the sister of donnie yen and going aginst the family.

    any thoughts ?

    • You’re so lucky to be on a first name basis with these actors. You must be important.

  16. Not enough screen time for these guys & that’s y I think more installments r needed to give them the proper amount of screen time to shine once again. JCVD needed more screen time & fighting sceens I thought in #2

  17. I didn’t like the first Expendables but i was really surprised by EX2 i found it to be extremely entertaining like Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes i hope the third one is even better cast sounds to be getting more bada**!!! Nothing wrong with that lol

    • Your comment is incomprehensible, Conor.

  18. The Expendables 1 & 2 are underrated, it’d be cool if John Woo directed the 3rd one and if you never heard of John Woo, then shame on you

  19. So, Mr Machete needs to b in this movie too…. He is a F badass !!!!

  20. I wish they get Danny Trejo in.

  21. Harrison Ford? Easy. Make him appear in a cameo as the president. Maybe contacting the team through Bruce Willis from his Airforce One. That is all.

  22. EX3 starring Michael Jai White as the villain and -Ray Park- as his right hand. MAKE IT HAPPEN ROCKY…

  23. Acutally, this is getting long in the tooth. Neither film were entertaining, just…amusing.

    • The second one was entertaining.

  24. Kurt Russell, Ron Perlman, Gerard Butler, Clint Eastwood(as the President),and Vin Diesal.
my personal wishlist FPS Russia and Richard “Mack” Machowicz (Deadliest Warrior).

  25. While Jackie Chan would make this movie for me, I can see there being some difficulties getting him on board. He’s extremely picky about what sort of movie he appears in, (in regards to violence, profanity, sex etc… – not quality obviously as The Tuxedo or The Medallion prove), and if EX 3 is too violent, I can see him backing out.

  26. My List For EX3:

Stallone, Statham, Lundgren, Couture, Crews and Li (hopefully has a big role) all returning.

    Old Expendables Memebers:

    Michael Jai White

    Jackie Chan

    Michael Biehn

Trejo as old team memeber who betrays the team for money and has a long brutal machete fight scene with Stallone.

Cameos from Mr. T, Carl Weathers and maybe Hulk Hogan, a Rocky reunion.

Also Steven Seagel if he can lose some weight and get along with the producer.

    The Main Villain’s Henchmen:
Darren Shahlavi, Matthias Hues, Vinnie Jones, Oliver Gruner, Don Wilson, Sasha Mitchell, Mark Dacascos I don’t know more.

Also who would be a great villain?

    • How about Mel Gibson or John Travolta?

  27. John Woo to direct

all returning cast members from 1 & 2
JCVD has already said he’d love to come back

Cage, Chan Snipes would be welcome

Kurt Russell needs to be in this along with Danny Trejo

if this is to be the last have one hell ova cast that’ll knock it outta the park literally get everyone in.

for box office reasons this needs THE ROCK in it I cant stress that enough.

be cool to have a scene in a war vet old folks home with Harrison Ford clint etc there and a shoot out emerges and Sly & Ford together shoot a bad guy and they look at each other and Ford’s character stresses that he shoot first, haha

    • Didn’t JCVD’s character get killed in Ex2? Or maybe he could play his own twin a la Double Impact!!

  28. The Rock needs to be in this s***!

  29. Yes to Chan, Cage, and Snipes!!!
