Yup, it’s time for another trailer preview. The trend of releasing a trailer for the actual trailer for a film has really taken off this year – with titles like Breaking Dawn – Part 2, Prometheus, Looper and now The Expendables 2 all taking advantage of the tactic to drum up interest in their respective theatrical promos.
The Expendables 2 trailer preview – as hosted by just one member of “The New Dirty Dozen,” Terry Crews – aims to have its cake and eat it too, by both teasing the Expendables sequel’s trailer and making fun of the whole trailer preview trend. (That and trying to pack as many explosions into 30 seconds as possible.)
As a fitting throwback to 1980s action cinema, Expendables 2 embraces the “This time, it’s personal!” sequel creed – with a storyline that sees the titular pack of mercenaries on a quest for vengeance, after one of their own is killed during what should’ve been an “easy” mission. Much old-fashioned, testosterone-fueled, mayhem ensues.
Buildup to the release of the Expendables sequel has certainly been quite the roller coaster ride – beginning with the news that Simon West (Con Air, The Mechanic) has taken over directorial duties, leaving Sylvester Stallone to “only” co-write and headline the sequel, going on to the controversial revelation that the film could be Rated PG-13 (at Chuck Norris’ request, no less), and followed by Sly’s contrarian statement that the sequel’s going to be Rated R.
On the other hand, that’s also helped keep moviegoers buzzing about Expendables 2 during the earlier stages of this year, following the release of a pretty basic “announcement” trailer last December. It certainly does illustrate just how passionate the fanbase is for this particular piece of nostalgic cinema.
The Expendables 2 hits theaters around the U.S. on August 17th, 2012.

In all seriousness, I’d love to see this movie, but Prometheus, Dark Shadows, TASM, Avengers, and TDKR will likely take all of my movie money… I expect to spend slightly above my budget to be honest. But even so, I’m interested.

Is it me or anyone else trying to figure out why Miley Cyrus boyfriend Liam Hemsworth and not his brother Chris aka Thor is in this movie. Last time i checked, he’s not an action star. 20 to 30 minutes in a role for The Hunger Games doing nothing does not make you an action star. I just bet Stallone tried to get Chris, but Chris said “No Thanks”. Everyone but him is an actual action star. Stallone to everyone – “Sorry guys i was drunk and i got hit by a Russian, my bad”.
